Sunapee Happenings

Luckily, seasonal shifts are usually positive and we have good things to look forward to. Technicolor fall hikes under bright blue skies… and a quiet respite before we tuck in for colder months. On the 23rd, we are reminded of the uniqueness of Mother Nature as we head outside to witness the full moon rising shortly after sunset.

Ellie’s Pollinator Garden at LSPA

Ellie Goddard was a Master Gardener who shared her knowledge and love of gardening with a smile. LSPA is collaborating with the Sunapee Gardeners to honor Ellie’s memory with the creation of a new pollinator garden at the Center for Lake Studies. This special project will be an ongoing educational demonstration dedicated in her memory. It will include native plants that are beneficial to a wide range of wildlife, especially pollinators. We hope you will visit the garden and follow our updates as the project develops. If you would like to make a memorial contribution to the garden, LSPA will be collecting tax deductible donations. You can donate online at www.lakesunapee.org or send a check with “Ellie’s Garden” in the memo.

Sunapee is selected as one of the best' road trips' in New Hampshire!

The Lake Sunapee Scenic Drive, also known as the Lake Sunapee Loop, circles Lake Sunapee, encompassing a total of approximately 25 miles. This road trip is worth taking multiple times, especially during autumn, as the panoramas of fall foliage explode with reds, oranges, greens, and yellows. Newbury is a good starting point, and some of the best attractions to enjoy along the way, besides the fall foliage, are stopping by the John Hay National Wildlife Refuge, visiting Mt Sunapee State Park, viewing the Herrick Cove Lighthouse, and enjoying the beauty of Lake Sunapee itself.

The Victorian Ladies’ Detective Collective

September 21 - October 8

by Patricia Milton

This comedy/mystery is a “cheeky thriller” that centers on women detectives and victims instead of the killer. In 1893, a serial killer not unlike Jack the Ripper terrorizes actresses in the Battersea district of London. As the police have been unable to stop this murderer, three women who live in Mrs. Hunter’s Lodging House for Ladies take up the task. But without modern forensics, access to crime scenes, or cooperation from the authorities, how can they succeed? It’s “Sherlock Holmes” meets “Arsenic & Old Lace” in this entertaining murder mystery with a modern female sensibility.
