Upcoming Events

All Levels Yoga with Bridget Harton

Join us on Saturday, November 5 at 9:30am for a free yoga class with instructor Bridget Harton! This class is a great opportunity for beginners to give yoga a try in a safe, welcoming environment and for experienced individuals to find a new place to continue their growth. Please bring your own mat and any props of preference.

Volunteer Fair

On Saturday, November 5 from 11am to 2pm, learn about and chat with representatives of several local nonprofits that are doing wonderful things in the community and who are looking for volunteers to aid their organizations.


There is no obligation to sign up to volunteer.

Braiding Sweetgrass Discussion with NH Humanities

In celebration of National American Indian Heritage Month, the library and New Hampshire Humanities are co-sponsoring a book discussion of "Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants" by Robin Wall Kimmerer on Monday, November 7 at 6:30pm. The group will be facilitated by Damian Costello who is an NH Humanities scholar. He is located in Montpelier, VT so will be leading the discussion remotely. We will have a remote option for those who aren't able to attend in person. Registration for that will be required.

History of the USS Albacore Submarine

Patti Violette, Executive Director of the USS Albacore will be presenting a program on the history of the submarine on Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30pm in celebration of Veteran's Day.


This event will be in-person but if you'd prefer to view from home, you may register to watch the presentation virtually.

Introduction to Excel Class

Join us for an Introduction to Excel with Peggy on Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30pm! This class will cover rows, columns, formulas, sorting and more. The class size is limited to 8 people and will take place in the technology corner at the Dover Public Library.

Friends of the Library Meeting

The Friends of the Dover Public Library need you! As a member of the group, as an active participant, or as a leader you can support this group which supports our library. Become a member of the Friends for as little as $15 per year. Attend a meeting to make your voice heard. Volunteer for a leadership position and make a real impact. This organization funds all the museum passes the library offers, a large portion of our summer reading activities, as well as many cultural events for the community.


The Friends will meet next on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:30pm in the Trustees Room. You may attend either in-person or on-line. If you would like to attend remotely, please email Denise LaFrance. Please join us and see how you can make the Dover Public Library an even better place!

Book Groups
New members to one or all groups are always welcome!

Cover 2 Cover will be meeting in person on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 10am to discuss Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane.

The Afternoon/Evening Book Group will be meeting in person and virtually on Monday, Nov. 21 at 3pm and 6:30pm to discuss Born a Crime by Trevor Noah.

Get Lit will be meeting in person on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6:30pm at Garrison City Beerworks to discuss The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman.

Virtual Cookbook Club will be exploring The Complete Autumn and Winter Cookbook by America's Test Kitchen. Copies of the book are available to check out at the main circulation desk. Please send your recipe photos to Emily at e.ainaire@dover.nh.gov.

A Matter of Fact, a non-fiction book group, will meet in person on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 10am in the Lecture Hall to discuss Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson.

Adult Chapter Book Club

On Wednesday, November 2 at 11am, adults with disabilities are invited to join the Chapter Book Club. At each session, we will read several chapters from a popular book. Our first book will be Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. We will end with activities and crafts related to the book and some time for socializing.

Genealogy Group

Join us on Tuesday, November 1 at 6:30pm for Genealogy Group! Whether you’re new to genealogical research or a seasoned pro, this group is a great way to meet others who share the same passion, can give you advice in your research, and listen to your newly-discovered family histories.

Knitting Group

The Knitting Group is meeting Wednesday, November 2 and 16 from 9:30-11:30am in the library’s Makerspace. All levels are welcome!

Family Game Night

On Wednesday, November 16 from 6-8pm, join us to play a fun selection of card & board games, and meet other board game enthusiasts in the community! You’re also welcome to bring your own games. All ages welcome!

Caregiver Cafe

On Wednesday, November 16 at 10:30am, join Cornerstone VNA as we introduce our newest monthly Caregiver Café to support Dover area family caregivers. Come for a morning of support, education and conversation. No registration is required.

Cocheco River Writers

Join a community of local writers with Cocheco River Writers! This group meets Thursday, December 1 at 6:30 PM and welcomes all skill levels. Discuss ideas, get tips, and share your work with others in a low-key, inviting atmosphere. Whether you want to write creatively for fun or for publication, this group is a great way to hone your craft!

Dungeons and Dragons: 18 and Older Group

Drop in and play Dungeons & Dragons with Game Masters Brandon and Dave!


The 18 & older groups are for new and veteran role-playing gamers to join us in the library for adventure, strategy, and imagination. The library has two groups that will meet every other Monday night and every Tuesday night, though you do not need to have attended previous sessions to enjoy your first game. No experience or materials are required and all skill levels are welcome to play.


This month's sessions will be indoors in the Trustees Room from 6 - 8 PM on November 1, 8, 14, 15, 22, 28, & 29. For more information, please visit our event calendar.

Teen Programs

Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to join us for our Teen Advisory Board meeting on Wednesday, November 9 at 6pm. Help us shape the library's teen services and programs while hanging out and eating snacks! For questions about this event, please e-mail Emily at e.ainaire@dover.nh.gov.

On Thursday, November 10 at 6pm, teens in grades 6-12 are invited to join us for an Oreo taste testing paired with rounds of Would You Rather? questions!

On Saturday, November 26 from 2-4pm, teens in grades 6-12 are invited to drop in and play some games on the Switch, or play some of our board and card games.

Passport Appointments
Thinking about traveling abroad, but don't have a passport? Give us a call at (603) 516-6050 to schedule an appointment. Passport application and renewal forms are available at the main circulation desk.
Notary Service
The library now has notaries on staff. Please call the library to see if the notaries are available. The cost is $5 per document payable in cash or by check. Notaries are also available at the City Clerk’s Office.
Do you need help picking out some good books? Did you know the library can help by using our Handpicked Book service? We ask a few simple questions and then put together some books we think you’d like based on your answers. Then you can come in to pick up, save the suggestions for later, or pick up via curbside pickup.
