November 2022

Dear RSPA Humble Families,

With great excitement, I announce that I have returned to my post as principal of RSPA's Humble Campus!

As we continue the fantastic work that has happened thus far this school year, I plan to be a collaborative leader alongside Superintendent Miller while serving as a supportive figure for her and her vision for RSPA's continued success.

I also plan to join the school's Instructional Leadership Team to work closely with teachers to support their very best efforts.

Lastly, teacher and student safety are extremely important to me, which is why I plan to work with school leaders to ensure positive and safe environments are being fostered for all members of our community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or join me for Chats with Calhoun later this month. I look forward to serving our students and families for the rest of the 2022-2023 school year!

Dear Parents,

Here at RSPA, we will be very busy learning about mindfulness -what it is, why it is important and how we can practice it. Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Ways that you can help your child continue to learn about the theme of mindfulness is through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! Go for a nature walk with your child. While spending time outside, pay attention to what you can see, smell, feel, taste, and touch. Encourage your child to try to notice new things he/she has never noticed before.

Additional Parent Announcements & Reminders

Testing Tibits:

Parents, we are approaching the testing season, and we want to ensure that all of our scholars are well-prepared. Here are some testing tips:

  1. Get enough sleep the night before the test.
  2. Prepare for the test by studying your notes from class.
  3. Take your time and read your test carefully.
  4. Always give a 100% on the test.

Campus-Based Assessments will be administered the week of November 1st - 4th & November 29th - December 2nd for Kindergarten - 8th-grade scholars.

Parent Pick-Up & Drop-Off Times:

Morning drop-off time begins at 7:15a, and early pick-up ends at 2:40p daily. If your child is tardy during morning arrival, you must park, come into the front office, and sign your child in. After 2:40p, parents are not permitted to enter the building, and students must leave during the regular dismissal time. If you need early drop-off or late pick-up, Crayon Club (6:00a-6:00p) is available for a fee. Thank you for your strict adherence to this policy.

Dismissal Safety:

1. Please remain in your car at all times.

2. If you have multiple scholars, please pick up your scholars at the pick-up spot for the oldest sibling or the person they are riding home with.

3. Children will not be permitted to cross the street to enter your car during dismissal. Please help us keep your children safe by working with us regarding this.

Transportation Change:

Any mode of transportation changes must be communicated to the front office by 2:00 pm. Please do not communicate any changes to your child's teachers.

Attendance:

Please make sure that your child attends school daily. It is imperative to their academic success and growth in school. Just as a reminder: students who miss 10 or more school days may receive an attendance behavior contract and could be subject to compulsory attendance laws. Also, 3 tardies are equivalent to one absence.

Spirit Shirts & Planners:

You may purchase spirit shirts for $10 and required student planners for $5 at the front office anytime EXCEPT: 7:30a - 8:00a and 2:40p and 3:45p.

RSPA CREW,

As we approach the holiday months, I want to encourage all parents to continue to bring their scholars to school on time every day. The district has seen record-low attendance rates, and we must work together to change this quickly. Studies show that attendance is directly linked to student achievement. The demand to close gaps and accelerate learning is high. When your scholar misses as little as one hour of learning, they start to create learning gaps that will be hard to overcome. Please join me in my efforts to increase attendance this school year!
