Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District Mission Statement
Honoring the unique talents of all, WE, the Lake Geneva Area Schools, families, and communities commit to providing EVERY student an excellent education that ensures the development of responsible, respectful citizens, and inspires life-long learning.

TOGETHER WE CAN!
Note from the Principal
Happy November!

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the first quarter of the school year! Time ure passes quickly when you are busy learning. We are grateful for the opportunity to be with your children, learning something new every day.

We hope that you took advantage of the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Conferences are the perfect time to share celebrations and
concerns regarding your child’s progress. Because we believe in working together as a team, your questions and input are important to us, so if you didn’t have the chance, please reach out to his/her teacher to make arrangements. Be sure to watch for your child’s report card as it will
be sent home on Friday, November 11th . Please remember to sign the envelope and return it to school for future use.

During the month of November, we celebrate American Education Week. This year, it is the
week of November 14th through 18th . This is a time to honor the team of people who work in public schools across the nation. From the bus drivers, custodians, and lunch ladies to the
teachers, aides and secretaries, the hard work is evident every day. We are so fortunate to
have a strong educational team at Central-Denison and in the Lake Geneva School District as a whole. We encourage you to take a few minutes to discuss the importance of school with your children. There are amazing things that they can learn when they are here. Encourage your child to work hard and be proud of the work that they do. Be sure to share some of your
favorite memories of when you were in school, maybe a favorite teacher or special event.

As Thanksgiving draws near, we are reminded of the many things that we are thankful for at
Central-Denison. Our building is filled with children who are excited about learning and a
dedicated staff who work very hard to make learning meaningful and fun. We are blessed to
serve families who continually show their support to our mission and a community that highly
values education. Thank you for sharing your children with us.

Gratefully,

Buhler Buhler and Colin Nugent

5K and 1st Grade Holiday Concert
Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

Hello there! My name is Mrs. Stanfield-Dunham, and I am the music teacher at Central-Denison Elementary. We are excited to announce that we will be having a winter concert this year with our kindergarten and first grade students! The best way to spread holiday cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

This year our concert is based on the story “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies,” by Laura Numeroff. Please mark your calendars, and take note of the information below.

What: Central-Denison’s Kindergarten and First Grade Program “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies”
Who: Central-Denison’s Kindergarten and First Grade classes
Where: Badger High School Main Gymnasium
What Date: Wednesday, November 30, 2022
What Time: Families can begin showing up by 6:00pm, and the concert will begin at 6:30pm. Please note that Badger’s gym doors will remain locked until 6:00pm.
What to Wear: Dress up for your performance! Please wear safe shoes that are easy to move in. No high heels.

We are excited to perform for you!

Student Attendance and Attendance Procedures
One of the biggest ways you can help your child succeed this school year is to make sure your child gets to school, on time, each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. We want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school every day possible this year.

When your child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence. When your child will be absent, you have two communication options:

Call Mrs. Draper in the main office at 262-348-4000 to speak with her and/or leave a message by 9:30 AM each day or email edith.draper@badger.k12.wi.us.
New this year, you may login to Powerschool to record the reason for your child’s absence. Please see the directions linked here.

We also ask that you let us know about pre-planned absences, including vacations and doctor appointments, ahead of time. When missing school for an appointment, it is always encouraged that you get documentation of your visit to provide to the school as verification. When leaving for an extended vacation, we also ask that you complete the Planned Absence Request form. This form can be obtained from Mrs. Draper in the office or visit lakegenevaschools.com.

Lastly, please also note, as a school, we are required to track student attendance and support families with any attendance issues or concerns. Our highest priority is to have students at school, and we are willing to help in any way we can. As a parent, it is important to understand the current State of Wisconsin attendance laws stated below:

A parent or guardian may only excuse their child/children 10 days during the school year. After these 10 days, an absence can only be excused if the school is provided with a note from a doctor, dentist, court, etc. The same guidelines apply for excessive tardies.

Once a student has been absent for 10 days (excused or unexcused), parents/guardians will receive a letter, noting the absences as well as procedures for next steps to improve attendance

Thank you in advance for your commitment and support to your child’s attendance this school year.
Winter Wear
REMINDER

Students have to wear a jacket for recess if the temperature is 60 degrees and below.

To play in the snow all five things are needed: waterproof gloves, hat, winter coat, snow pants and boots.

It would be very helpful to send extra gloves for the next recess and an extra pair of socks to change into after recess.

In the winter, we have outdoor recess unless the temperature is 0 degrees or below.
