Volume 34 | September 2021
Hello Caswell:
It is with great sadness and disappointment that we announce the Bright Leaf Hoedown has been cancelled for 2021. The Chamber Board of Directors determined that based on the quickly rising covid numbers in our county and low vaccination rates that the risk was too great to have the festival.

Although there is great disappointment about the cancellation, we want to maintain a safe community for our small businesses, crafters and visitors.
We will persevere and plan to have an even greater event in 2022!
2021 Bright Leaf Hoedown Cancelled
This event had many new activities of which we can look forward to including in the 2022 festival. Following are a few of those:

Hay Quality Competition by Cooperative Extension
(contact the Extension office for details on this as a version will happen this fall)
Silent Art Auction by Caswell Arts Council
still begins online 2nd Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 am
Gunn Memorial Library Women's Suffrage Exhibit (still scheduled at this time)
'Tobacco Talks' on Caswell Heritage
Corn Hole Tournament by Ace Home & Building Center

Articles on six of the bands that were scheduled to perform and their connections to Caswell County will be highlighted in The Caswell Messenger. Other articles and stories that had already been written for the special Hoedown pullout section of The Messenger will be shared in the paper later in September.

We say a huge THANK YOU to those sponsors that have already informed the Chamber that their sponsorships were to become donations.
Thank you!! This will help the Chamber to hopefully recover from a second year without our flagship fundraiser.

Cycle North Carolina Cyclists to Stop in Yanceyville for Lunch Festivities at Pavilion

Tuesday, October 5
8:30 - 2:00

In the twenty-one years since, the Mountains to Coast Ride has traversed the state using a different week-long route each year. The ride has stopped overnight in more than 100 North Carolina towns and passed through over 700 North Carolina communities. The Mountains to Coast Ride is not a race, but a recreational trek across the state using scenic back roads. The ride is designed to promote physical fitness, good health and the scenic beauty of North Carolina.

The cyclists will make a stop in Yanceyville at the Pavilion on Tuesday, October 5 between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. Area nonprofits will be providing food and other vendors will create a festival like stop for the riders. To participate email the county here.
In order to share more about the many businesses and organizations in the Chamber, this 'Salute to Success' introduces you to an organization that services the Caswell community but is located outside of the county. This month, please meet Racing for Heroes, located at VIR at 1100 Ace Drive, Alton, VA.

Racing for Heroes provides the Veteran community new mission with a purpose and place to belong. There are too many heroes who need a shoulder to cry on, a patient ear to listen and a hug to let them know they are not alone in their daily battle. We provide that space and we know the challenges, because many of us face them too.

BROADBAND INFO

DEQ’s Environmental Justice Team would like to pass along the following information:

North Carolina’s Department of Information Technology’s (NCDIT) Broadband Infrastructure Office launched the North Carolina Broadband Survey this summer to gather clearer data on locations with inadequate internet access and speeds. Many North Carolinians still lack high-speed internet, and the currently available data does not fully reflect the reality of the coverage across the state. We want to hear from our residents about the availability and quality of internet service in their homes and communities. Information gathered using the survey will be used to provide context to the state’s broadband picture, guide funding opportunities and inform research and policy recommendations.

The survey, available here, along with additional information, takes about 5 minutes to complete and is available in both English and Spanish. Users with internet access at their location can take the five-minute survey online. Participants are encouraged to also take the optional internet speed test to connect survey data with broadband speed information. Users without internet service can take the survey by phone at 919-750-0553.

We would greatly appreciate it if you would share through your communication channels.
The Museum Store at the North Carolina Museum of Art has expanded the NC-based artists that we work with and we are looking to expand our roster even further and find new collaborators!

To be considered, it’s as simple as filling out this form, where you will be asked to provide photos of your products. The Museum Store is located in the West Building and open from 10 am to 5 pm.

Visitors will be able to view and purchase the items you create, take them home as souvenirs, or give them as gifts. With your beautiful creations, we can give them items they can cherish, and remember the times they had the NCMA. See photo on right of the NCMA store.

Thank you to Chamber Member Milton Studio Art Gallery for sharing this update with the community.
Get Your Farm on the VISIT NC Farm App Today!

Thanks to a grant from The North Carolina Department of Agriculture, Caswell County will be able to join five other counties to create the North Central Region in the Visit NC Farm App. This is a downloadable app to cell phones that helps local producers get information about their farm products and services to the public. Farmers may be included for $50 per year. The Chamber is able to purchase a large ad and then divide it into smaller ads at a lower cost for businesses. Here is the latest ad that was just published in the Fall Issue.
