Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:
Psalm 66:5-12 Come and see God's deeds; his works for human beings are awesome: He turned the sea into dry land so they could cross the river on foot. Right there we rejoiced in him! God rules with power forever; keeps a good eye on the nations. So don't let the rebellious exalt themselves. All you nations, bless our God! Let the sound of his praise be heard! God preserved us among the living; he didn't let our feet slip a bit. But you, God, have tested us—you've refined us like silver, trapped us in a net, laid burdens on our backs, let other people run right over our heads—we've been through fire and water. But you brought us out to freedom!
Numbers 23:16-21 The Lord granted Baalam an appearance and gave him a message. He said, “Return to Balak and say this.” Baalam approached Balak, who was standing by his entirely burned offering with the officials of Moab. Balak said to him, “What did the Lord say?” Then Baalam raised his voice and made his address: “Arise, Balak, and listen; hear me out, Zippor's son. God isn't a man that he could lie, or a human being that he would change his mind.
Has he ever spoken and not done it, or promised and not fulfilled it?
I received a blessing and he blessed. I can't take it back. He hasn't envisioned misfortune for Jacob, nor has he seen trouble for Israel. The Lord his God is with him, proclaimed as his king...”
Matthew 23:8-12 “...You shouldn't be called Rabbi, because you have one teacher, and all of you are brothers and sisters. Don't call anyone on earth your father, because you have one Father, who is heavenly. Don't be called teacher, because Christ is your one teacher. But the one who is greatest among you will be your servant. All who lift themselves up will be brought low. But all who make themselves low will be lifted up...”
Romans 8:26-30 In the same way, the Spirit comes to help our weakness. We don't know what we should pray, but the Spirit himself pleads our case with unexpressed groans. The one who searches hearts knows how the Spirit thinks, because he pleads for the saints, consistent with God's will. We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. We know this because God knew them in advance, and he decided in advance that they would be conformed to the image of his Son. That way his Son would be the first of many brothers and sisters. Those who God decided in advance would be conformed to his Son, he also called. Those whom he called, he also made righteous. Those he made righteous, he also glorified.
