AUTUMN EQUINOX

Monday night’s full Harvest Moon lit up the sky... and this morning’s crisp air heralds the arrival of the Autumn Equinox. Songs have been written about the season and “Leaf Peepers” will soon be driving our country roads to enjoy the colorful beauty. In fact, people from around the world travel to New England to experience our awesome autumns. How very fortunate are we, natives to the land, to awaken to a splendid Autumn each morning.

An Afternoon of Sculpture and Dance
Sunday, September 26, 1:00-3:00pm

Reflecting this summer’s sculpture theme of Stillness and Motion, dancers from the professional dance company Ballet Misha (of Manchester) will return to the John Hay Estate at The Fells this summer to perform an exploratory collaboration between sculpture and dance. Visitors follow a self-guided tour of the grounds where they will see dancers performing improvisational dance inspired by the sculptures. Dancers will interact with the sculptures, exploring the dynamics of stillness and motion. Several of the sculptors and gallery artists will be present to discuss their work. Guests can move through the exhibits at their leisure to see the dancers, sculptures and art, and meet the artists. Bring a picnic to enjoy in the garden, on the veranda, or in the pavilion. Members: free, Non-Members: included in regular admission fee.

Museums
For a family day trip... the Children’s Museum in Dover NH and the Montshire in Norwich VT are great choices!
The Children's Museum of New Hampshire, located in Dover, is consistently ranked as one of the best museums for kids in New England.

Plan on a morning or afternoon at the museum and be sure to add in some time to have a picnic on the lawn. This is the type of place you can enjoy all day, both indoors and out!

The Montshire is open for science discovery — both inside and out!

When you visit Montshire’s 100-acre museum, you enter an exciting world of science, nature, and technology. Inside the museum, we offer over 150 interactive permanent and featured exhibits. The exploration continues outside along the nature trails bordering the beautiful Connecticut River.

(is shining on history and the schools)
The Flanders-Osborn Museum, home of the Sunapee Historical Society, has been added to the NH State registry of Historic Places. Interestingly, the museum is the second building in Sunapee Harbor to have be so designated... and like The Livery, both were built as livery stables in the 1890’s, when the mode of travel for summer tourists was by train from cities south of NH, transferring to steamships in Newbury and then on to Sunapee Harbor to rent a rig for local travel. For details re: this award, we refer you to the front page article in the Sept. 14th Intertown Record.
Congratulations to Coach "Ike" Iacopino who was recognized by the NHIAA on Monday September 13 for 25 years of coaching.

Ike has coached the Sunapee Boys Varsity team for this tenure, amassing four trips to the state finals and two state titles. In addition to coaching, Ike is a science teacher, ski coach, and mentor to hundreds of students.

Congratulations Coach Ike!
Congratulations to Peggy Austin for receiving the 2021 “Jim Currier Fan Of The Year” award from Sunapee Athletics.

Peggy has been an enthusiastic supporter of all Sunapee students for the past 40 years. Hundreds of students have benefited from Peggy’s delicious dinners and emphatic support.

Thank you Peggy!

Fun competition among businesses, Organizations and homeowners!
Register today with Sunapee Recreation Department.
Contest runs Oct 1 to Oct 31st
As we transition into the cooler temperatures and fall makes it's way in it's time to think about THE RETURN OF THE PUMPKIN PEOPLE! It's always a fun October event to see the different displays in all our area towns. Here at the Chamber we serve 12 different communities and we would love to see ALL of them participate in this festive fall display contest; Andover, Bradford, Danbury, Grantham, Newbury, Newport, New London, Springfield, Sunapee, Sutton, Warner and Wilmot.

No over-arching theme ~ whatever sparks your creative juices will totally work! We will again have a virtual map where folks can see all the displays entered! Last year we had 40 entries! I would love to see us get to 50 amazing displays this year - be part of the action! The sooner they can be up the better but all I ask is that you register by October 4th - so take some time this week and next to think about your theme and plan.

These displays can be town offices, businesses, organizations, social groups, residences, etc. All that you need to do is register on our website HERE so we know you are participating. This also provides the physical address so we can create that virtual map - then folks can enjoy it and VOTE for their favorite displays during the last week of October! Prizes for the winners!

(PS ~ if you are participating in the Sunapee Pumpkin People Contest feel to enter this as well ~ the more displays out there for October the better!)

Thank you so much and let's have some fall festive fun!
