Sue and I love running this little friendly club and are here to help in any way we can. Although I personally don't claim to know everything about the car, as a club we are truly blessed to be surrounded by such helpful and friendly members whom we can turn to, so ask away.

Lastly, we wanted to remind you that we are always on the lookout for great stories and helpful and interesting articles so please don't be shy and do get in touch.

In loving memory of Sandra Graham
It’s with great sadness that we bring you the news of the passing of Sandra Graham after she lost her battle with Cancer. Sandra, her husband Ken and their Figaro named Fergus were regulars at many of our Figaro rallies, as well as organising the Scotland rally in 2015.

Anyone who met Sandra would remember her. She was friendly, kind, always smiling and became an instant friend to everyone she met. She was always the first person on the dance floor and loved the madness of a Figaro rally. Sandra will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. A proud Scot, who brought joy and friendship to our own family and so many of our members too.

We are heartbroken and are sending all our love and thoughts to Ken and the family at this time.
Funeral Date - Tomorrow 3rd Nov 2022, 3 pm
You can read and add your own messages to Sandra's obituary page. There is a video link to watch the funeral too with the PIN code to access it and other information also Click here

Many thanks once again for all your messages of support, Ken Graham.
FIGGY NEWS
Are you sitting comfortably?
The Figaro seat upgrade is one of our most popular club upgrades (with almost 9,000 YouTube views). As your Figaro was manufactured in 1991 the chances are your seats may not be offering the support you need. We had the same issue and have now investigated the problem it’s easy to see why. It’s simply the lack of foam used between your bottom and the supporting steel springs.
Nissan Figaro pin badges
Member Helen Paszyn has created 5 Enamel Figaro Badges in all 4 classic colours plus a pink custom colour. Watch Kevin unpacking them :)

Prices
£7 each or £32 complete set of colours with five pins (Free standard delivery to the UK) Pictures and details can be found on Helen's Facebook Page and also on Instagram Learn more
This cool box is so cool!
As a club, we don't make a habit of promoting cool boxes but with its retro looks, this one really caught our eye. Manufactured by Polerbox the 20l box is available in a few of the colours which almost match the classic colours (pale aqua/emerald green) and if you have a custom colour in pink or yellow they are available too.
You can buy them everywhere just Google Polarbox. We paid £27.99 from eBay.
How to build a RC Figaro
Club member Calu Thierry created this tutorial to allow you to make yourself a mini Figaro at 1/64th radio controlled… You don’t think you can do it, probably and yet it’s easy, follow me….

This is the principle of Kiss model making
NB. He claims he is not a model maker but we beg to differ! This could make a great winter project during all those dark evenings lol.
New - Hockey Stick Trim Set
Another awesome product by Dan Fallon from Garage FK10. Called a ‘hockey stick’ (and you can see why by the shape) these plastic chrome trims are located on either side of the car in front of the front wheel and behind the rear wheel. Over time they can become crazed and dull so if you are looking to bling up your Figaro then they are worth it. The price is £200 for the set of 4 but Garage FK10 also offer these individually if not all four are needed
Windscreen Replacement Guide
Over the past few weeks, we have received a number of enquiries about the Nissan Figaro Windscreen so we have created a webpage. Although the rear windscreen is no longer available, the good news is the front windscreen (Part No HT6024LB) is. The Windscreen is still being manufactured and available through National Windscreens and The Figaro Shop. Our new page includes a fitting guide, members' stories and advice from our insurers regarding how to claim. Learn more

Help! My Figaro is not idling correctly
Words & Pictures - Papasan (Forum) & Kevin Fagan

You may find that your Figaro is idling too slow or fast. Engine idle setting should be set at around 850rpm.

WHAT THE IAA UNIT DOES
The unit allows you to set up idle, electrical and AC loading. Looking at the unit, the first screw on the right is the idle speed. The middle screw is for the electrical load (i.e. headlights) and the left one is for AC load compensation.

Generally, you don’t need to tinker with the 2 compensation screws but here’s how to adjust everything.

1) Take the car for a spin and get it completely warmed up.
2) Set the parking brake and block the wheels so the car can’t creep.
3) Next put the car into Drive (or Reverse). Your choice but the car has to be in gear because the compensation circuits don’t operate in Park. You may need someone to sit in the car whilst you do the adjustment.
4) Adjust the idle speed. Aim for around 850rpm but the goal is to have the car idling smoothly – not shaking or rough. If the car is better a bit faster then so be it.
5) Next turn on the headlights. The compensation solenoid should kick in and the idle will momentarily change. Check the speed. The idle should be close or may be slightly higher than with no load. Adjust so that the car isn’t shaking or rough. TFS recommend screwing all the way in and then 5 x turns out.
6) Next turn on the AC. Adjust the third screw when the AC compressor cycles on. Check the speed and adjust so that the car isn’t shaking or rough.TFS recommend screwing all the way in and then 2.5 x turns out.
7) Turn off the headlights and AC and put the car back into Park. You’re done.

Cornwall Figaro Tour
Sun 25th/Thursday 29th Sept 2022
Words and Pictures – Kevin Fagan

Time flies as it was 3 years since Pat and Sarah Light’s Cornwall Rally back in 2019. They were keen to create the event again in 2020 but Covid scuppered the plans, so two years on, at last, the event went ahead. In fact, this is the third rally they have organised, the first being in 2017. And it was certainly worth waiting for as over 30 cars made their way in the sunshine to the hotel which had stunning views of the Cornish sea. Pat had pre-arranged reserved car parking which meant we all parked together, a pre-requisite of any Figaro event.

After dinner, we all moved to the hotel lounge where we enjoyed a brief welcome talk which was followed by the distribution of the very impressive rally packs. Everyone was told to make sure they had enough fuel, the flag was secured on the passenger side (so we all matched) and we must be ready to push off at 9:30 on the dot.

Sar and Pat Light organised the whole event themselves and
also made brilliant hosts during the evenings too >
Monday morning was dry but very windy as we set off to Tintagel in convoy, where cream teas at the Camelot Castle Hotel would be waiting. unfortunately, one of the roads was closed off causing some chaos but that was all part of the fun. Pat had arranged parking on the grass which created some fabulous phot0 opportunities. Unfortunately due to wind both the castle and bridge were shut so like Sue and me, after refuelling with the cream tea many made their way down the clifftop walks and headed for the pretty walks some of which ended up at the beach below the hotel. Back in the hotel and after dinner, we went to the lounge to enjoy the popular rally quiz!
On day two we woke to dark clouds but dry roads for our drive through some clay villages on our way to Blackpool Pit which Pat had been given special permission to have a look at as this is not open to the public. With such a stunning backdrop we lined up on either side and took a whole bunch of pictures. After this brief stop, it was time to head to Wheal Martyn, a China clay museum. Pat had organised two guided tours which were so worth it as the venue had the most interesting history. It was also interesting to hear more about China Clay and where it is used today. The evening was another fun event. Pat had asked beforehand for everyone to bring and donate prizes for the raffle/quiz. £1,338.33 was raised for the local hospice.

< Driving in a 'Figaro Convoy' is a feeling that you cannot describe unless you've been there. The cars seem to create such a buzz!

The last day was another lovely drive to The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Again pat had organised Figaro parking and we took our traditional group photo. It’s Europe’s largest garden restoration and worth a visit if you are ever in Cornwall. Sue and I took the opportunity to have our Cornish pasty fix before exploring the venue where we came across a very tame robin! The weather was great so we decided to pop down the road and check out Mevagissey Harbour. The last evening was a right cracker as we all came down to dinner in our Disney-themed fancy dress.

There were some fantastic outfits, see below.

Pictures and Words Keith Evans

I am an ex-pat Brit now living in California. I had never seen, nor even heard of, a Nissan Figaro. Then, on a trip back to the UK, I saw this cool, quirky, retro car passing by, “What on Earth is that?”, I asked my sister. “No idea”, she replied. But I was smitten and went on a mission to find out what was this mysterious car. Eventually, I discovered it was a Nissan Figaro, and I had to have one.

Of course, the Figaro was never sold in the US, but cars older than 25 years can now legally be imported, so no problem I thought. Wrong! California has the most restrictive vehicle emission controls in the country, and just because a vehicle is Federally legal does not make it so here. In fact, to be road legal in CA, an imported car must not only be more than 25 years old but must also be certified compliant by the CA DMV (the equivalent of the UK DVLA). In the case of the Figaro, this means making some modifications to the vehicle fuel and emissions systems and being inspected by the State Referee.

To further complicate matters, this work can only be carried out by a single certified shop in the whole state, it takes months, and costs $$$. As a result, while Nissan Figaros are popping up more and more in other US states (there is a shop in Virginia with a warehouse full of them!), in CA they are still as rare as hen’s teeth. I decided I was unwilling to endure this frustrating and costly bureaucratic process to import and certify my own car, so I began looking for Figs that were already registered in CA. This was several years ago – but they are so rare here that finding one already legalized and for sale is almost impossible. The car has also now developed something of a fan base in the US, so whenever one did appear it was snapped up before it even hit a listing.
Keith with his Emerald Green Figgy
Then, earlier this year, someone posted an ad in one of the Figaro Facebook groups for a CA-legal Fig for sale down in Southern CA (I live in Northern CA), at a very reasonable price (they are still several grand more expensive here than in other states because of the cost of CA certification).

"I wasted no time and called on a Sunday. Amazingly, it was still available, although offers had already been made. I hung up, cogitated for 10 minutes, then called back and offered full asking, which was accepted – finally, after all these years I had actually bought a Figaro!!!"

I arranged with the seller to have the car transported to my home, and a few days later it arrived. I was so thrilled, there’s just nothing like this car! All the stories about the smiles and the joy it brings to all who see them are true. I have other classic cars, but the Figaro gets more attention than any of them, especially here in CA where most people have never seen one. The Figaro Club and the online community is great too. Definitely, the most fun car I have ever owned, viva Figaro!
How to wash your Figaro video
We know what you’re thinking! I don’t need a video to teach me how to wash a car but the Figaro has some unusual and quirky features, one of which is the way the car removes water from the roof gully and top boot area.
Words & Pictures - Kevin Fagan

Also, parts of the car retain water leading to corrosion so need to be hand dried. In this video, I show you some important tips and tricks to keep your Figgy looking beautiful.

German Chapter Figaro Meeting Sat 17th/Sun 18th September 2022
Words, Pictures and Video - Jörg Middendorf

Our German Chapter members have become very close due to regular Zoom meetings. Organised by our local coordinator Jörg Middendorf. Our members attended this event located in the pretty Hessen area. It was arranged that they would meet and stay on Saturday in a local hotel allowing everyone to have dinner together and get to know each other better. Unfortatantly, the weather was not great for the Figgy's with heavy rain forecast all day. Nevertheless, we had a good convoy drive to Edersee which is a large Reservoir with a variety of recreational activities, such as camping, biking on trails & boating.

Rally plaques were the order of the day >

Help! My battery keeps going flat.
Words & Pictures - Kevin Fagan & Simon Smith.

One of the most common issues we hear about at the club is flat batteries even after a week. The Figaro seems to have issues in this area which we suspect in many instances is down to what they refer to as ‘leakage’.

When the battery is left connected to the car and not driven there is still an electrical drain happening. This can be down to items such as the Clarion radio, clock and other parts of the car.

There are many reasons for the drain and some can be very hard to rectify. One of the options is to simply disconnect the battery terminals, however, doing so can wear out the terminals and connectors and can also be fiddly and messy to keep doing. A better solution is to install what is known as a Battery Disconnect Isolator Switch. The switch mounts directly to the negative battery posts. To disconnect the switch turn the wheel a 1/4 turn anti-clockwise. To re-connect turn the wheel clockwise until the wheel is tight. For added security, the wheel can be completely removed.

The specifications are 6-24V at 500A which should be more than the cold starting rating (CCA) value of most batteries.

HOW TO ORDER – MEASURE YOUR BATTERY STUD!
The first thing you need to do is measure the negative diameter of the battery stud as these can come in two sizes. These can be 13mm but sometimes 17mm.

HOW TO FIT THE TERMINAL SWITCH
1 - Open the bonnet and locate the battery, you can see on mine I also have a Cteck charger connector
2 - Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery using a 10mm spanner. You can see I have also removed the connector
3 - Clean the negative terminal with some wire wool to make sure a good contact is made with the connector.
4 - Fit the negative terminal to the isolator switch, push it on fully and tighten, note the angle and position of it. It is important that it is on fully but not touching the isolated section.
5 - Next push the adaptor onto the negative battery post and using the 10mm spanner and a cross head screwdriver (or spanner) tighten up the clamp
6 - The fitted adaptor without the black isolator screw wheel. This can be removed for security too if you want that extra security when you leave the car.
7 - With the isolator wheel fitted but not fully. You can see the gap that means the battery is not connected.
8 - with the wheel fully tightened. ensure this is nice an tight before driving the car
9 - So now fitted all you have to do is to pop up the bonnet and either unscrew or screw up the wheel.
WARNING – DO NOT FIT IF YOU HAVE AN ALARM SYSTEM
We do not recommend fitting the battery disconnect isolator switch as this could invalidate your insurance!
CarFest South
Friday 26th to Sun 28th August 2022
Words, Pictures & Video Adam Woods
Consider After lots of discussion with our very own CarFest Supremo Ken, and guidance (of course!) from Kevin, back in November we took on the reigns to organise the club’s attendance at CarFest South! After months of registrations, and hundreds of emails with the organisers we were pleased to confirm that 7 club members participating on the Figaro Owners Club stand for 2022!

Registrations complete, health and safety sorted, camping arranged and stand rota distributed, we set off from Suffolk in our Figaro Sparky for the 3-hour trip to Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire, in a mini convoy with our S-Cargo Flash who was doing the donkey work with the tent, gazebo, flags and hundreds of leaflets!
We arrived on-site at around 2 pm and after saying hello to the first arrivals from our group and getting our tent up, after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, we got everyone’s passes sorted and headed over to set up the stand. By 6.30pm we were back over on the campsite to find that a village of Figgy fans had grown up around our tent, getting ready for the bite to eat we had arranged to help everyone get to know each other.

We managed to get everyone into Emma’s Pao Pablo or our Snail Flash, and headed over to the White Hart in Overton a couple of miles away. It was lovely meeting members over there, having a chat and getting increasingly excited for the days ahead!
After some of us partook of a few celebratory beverages back on the campsite, we were all up and over at the stand to get our Figs in place, putting the finishing touches in place, and ready for our team briefing at 10 am the next morning! With that done, we all had the chance to go and have a look around CarFest before it officially opened at 12 noon.

What an amazing site it was with whole areas dedicated to different things; food, spa, kids, adventure, retro, and of course lots of car-related things like the paddock and car club areas… and then there were the star and music stages!

From 12 noon on day one and 10am on the following days we had a steady stream of visitors – other members, people who already owned a Fig,
people who have always wanted one, and of course those who are convinced they are Fiats built in the 60s! Our lovely members were amazing, chatting away, sharing stories, answering questions, and just embodying the love of all things Figaro!

And along the way we all had a chat and a laugh – what a truly amazing bunch of people who it was an honour to spend time with!

While everyone needed to spend just over 2 hours on the stand each day, none of us could help but return for more – what a fantastic Figgy family! And when it got to 7pm we could all head off to enjoy the evening and night’s entertainment, see some amazing acts and partake of a few more beverages, returning to camp to chat and smile and laugh.
Visitors were treated to a display of all four classic colours
Watch the video
Oh, and let’s not forget the little bit of track time we had and the drive out to Overton on Saturday – heading out in convoy with the other car clubs – unsurprisingly the Figaros got the biggest cheers thanks to our incessant beeping! And of course, our celebrity visitors who were invited to join us in some beep beeps over on the stand (you will have to see who in the video below).

CarFest was worth every second – not just because of the entertainment and the other stands, but because we could share the experience with some fantastic Figgy fans who undoubtedly completed the experience together as great friends, and barely being able to wait until One Big CarFest at Laverstoke Park next year!!
My goodness, Figaro's life is just so flipping fantastic! Thanks to CarFest and the Figaro Owners Club for such a wonderful opportunity to experience!!

Cambridgeshire Figaro Day Trip Sunday 18th September 2022
"Just 10 days before we all heard the sad news that HM The Queen had passed away, and with the funeral scheduled for the day after our day trip, I knew that the usual energy and enthusiasm from our Figgy fans would be a little muted compared to normal"
Words, Pictures and Video Adam Woods

We started planning the Cambridgeshire Day Trip a few months ago, and not knowing that side of the region quite as well, I really struggled to find a nice venue where we could meet in a lovely setting with decent parking, while also finding a suitable destination around an hour away with some nice places to visit along the way. In the end, with 6 weeks to go, we found a lovely little venue in St Ives called Slepe Hall, some gorgeous countryside, towns and villages to drive through, and the historic house and grounds of Deene Park, just across the border in Northamptonshire.
Just 10 days before we all heard the sad news that HM The Queen had passed away, and with the funeral scheduled for the day after our day trip, I knew that the usual energy and enthusiasm from our Figgy fans would be a little muted compared to normal. So, we reviewed the route and tweaked it a little so that we could spend more time in the open countryside – it just seemed a little more appropriate for what would be a more reflective weekend.

Sadly a couple of members had car trouble in the days before the trip, and on the day itself, another car overheated on the way over – but most important was that everyone was safe.
The weather was already a little changeable, but as we set out from St Ives the sun was peeping out between the clouds. After the necessary but not very thrilling route around the outskirts of Huntingdon, we headed out through the Stukeleys, on through Alconbury, over the bridge, and were then surprised to meet a vintage car convoy heading in the opposite direction. And so we headed out into the beautiful rolling countryside, sweeping across fields so that drivers and passengers could enjoy the lovely scenery.

We then dropped down towards the market town of Oundle, and drove through the centre with a few beeps and waves, complimenting the beautiful stone buildings. From here we headed out again, passing through the Benefields and on towards Deene Park.
"With two cars joining us over at Deene Park, eight cars met at Slepe Hall … and after some breakfast and refreshments, we met in front of the grand exterior of the hotel, ready for our trip. Rather than the usual beeps, everyone waved, and we agreed that if anyone didn’t wish to beep as we went along, of course, they shouldn’t feel obliged to at all"

Zac Toumazi - Thank you very much for making my Figaro ownership so enjoyable and for the valuable information provided.
By way of some background. Over many years I have always thought about buying a Figaro but due to work/family commitments and a host of other “obstacles, “ my desire fell into the “one-day” box, in June of this year my son knocked on my door, wished me a happy birthday a threw me a bunch of keys in my direction. Imagine my surprise when I found a lovely Figaro parked on my drive. What a birthday present!

US-Based Norman Shier - Here is a pic of my Fig named "Sybil" at a local show being enjoyed by many of the Desert Hot Springs visitors.
Evelyn & Peter Binns - Thought you might like to know that today (Sunday 28 August) we flew the flag for the Figaro at the UK's most southerly classic car show at The Lizard in Cornwall by entering our Topaz Mist example. As has been the case at other recent classic car shows down here, there were no other Figaros entered so ours was quite a talking point. Many of the holidaymakers visiting the show were more familiar with Figaros than most Cornish folk, and several we spoke to were actively looking to acquire one. Consequently, the Owners'Club and the Figaro Shop were plugged heavily as sources of help and advice for would-be owners.

No prizes were awarded at the show, but we lost count of the number of visitors who said our Figaro stood out as one of the best and most appealing cars there.
Hannah Smith - I recently joined the Figaro Owners Club as I received a Nissan Figaro for my 21st birthday. It’s been my dream car and I’ve always pointed them out since I was little. I just wanted to share a picture in case you wanted some new cars in the newsletter. Her name is Nancy.

I saw the Figaro owners club while at Carfest south and was given a gift card to join on my birthday the following Tuesday after admiring the cars all weekend, unbeknown that I would have one of my own. I am part of a car club called the sporting bears which was also at Carfest south raising money for various charities, with a total of over £80,000 from combined Carfest north and south. I am planning to take Nancy to some of Sporting Bears smaller events to help raise money for charity.

Dutch Figaro After Summer Tour Sunday 25th September 2022
Words and Pictures Joyce & Pascal
Like the last year, the last Sunday of September was the Figaro After Summer Tour organized by Figarolikes.

We were looking for a nice part of the Netherlands, where our beloved Figaro’s would have a great drive. We had view options in mind, and the best area for 2022 was Twente.
Twente is a region in the Eastern Netherlands, it encompasses the eastern part of the province of Overijsel. We found in Bistro “de Oale ste” a very nice and cozy place to start the day. Instead of a normal piece of cake with the coffee we had a very good, local piece of “Krentenwegge”, best to compare with raisin bread.
“For the first time since we started the Figaro After Summer Tour, we made a driving test to start the day. We have made a test with three poles in a triangle, where the intention is that the first pole is knocked over, by driving against it, but one stops in time so that the other two poles remain standing.

Although only two Figaro’s were successful in the test, it was great fun for everybody to watch and do the test.”
After the test we showed the attendees the red/white blocked starting flag, along beautiful roads through a landscape as varied as possible, the route book leads to one of the best-known and most beautiful towns in Twente, Ootmarsum.

In Ootmarsum we welcomed all the Figaro’s on a lovely square in front of “Gasterij Oatmossche”.
While everybody could enjoy a tasteful lunch, the view of the square was so nice with all the Figaros parked in a big circle. The 2022 rally shields were made in “Pale Aqua” so we asked the four Pale’s to park next to each other on the square.
After lunch, we restarted all the Figaro’s, the same as in the morning part they had to recognize eight picture moments along the way. We as well placed nine orange signs with letters next to the road, which gives points if you find them.
The more letters you found, the easier to puzzle the word that too made with the letters. Finding the word gives bonus points. The finish of the event was in entering, at “Landgoed Het Rheins” where we had a great lane to park all the Figaros in one long line, a great photo opportunity for all the Figaro-loving photographers.

With a small talk, a drink and a bite for all the attendants the jury had some time to check all the forms, to see who will win the great sparkplug trophy’s that we had for this year. Like last year, the Pink Figaro from Gwenda won the first prize!

This year her mother was the navigator from team 1 but the family connection was very clear, very fanatic and very enthusiastic.
With so many smiling faces at the end of the day, Joyce and I are in secret already busy planning the fifth Figaro After Summer Tour 2023
How the club started
Our son Daniel had always wanted a Figaro having seen the car at his local garage when he was just 16. After saving for a number of years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad!) he, at last, brought an emerald green model in May 2008. See him pictured with Figgy aged just 19 bless him >>

Following the purchase, we searched on the internet for a club in the hope we could attend events and meet other owners. We were amazed that at that time no club existed so the Figaro Owners Club was born!

"We decided to build a basic website and forum which took a few months and on the 1st March 2009, pressed the publish button and waited to see if anyone wanted to join? Within a week we had 10 members, a month 35 and a year 478!"

Today the club has around 1,300 members worldwide in countries including New Zealand, Japan, Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden and many more.
