Program Spotlight:  FIRST Robotics ~ STEM Talent Pipeline

FIRST Robotics is thriving in Ventura County!  FIRST Robotics engages students in STEM activities both during the school day and in after school programs.  The original FIRST team in Ventura County started at Newbury Park High School in 2011; the following year a second team formed at Ventura High School in collaboration with the Career Education Center.  FIRST high school teams have grown to every high school in OUHSD and in most county districts for a current total of 17 high school teams in the county.

FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge programs are designed for ages 4-18 and build foundational skills to support the high school programs.  Many middle school and elementary teams have emerged with the support of the high school FIRST Robotics community. Currently there are 15 FIRST Tech Challenge and 26 FIRST LEGO League teams in addition to the 17 FIRST high school teams throughout the county.

These opportunities are supported by Navy mentors and organizations such as the Gene Haas Foundation.  Please contact Erica Perez eperez@vcoe.org to support the growth of FIRST in Ventura County through sponsorship, mentoring, or other contribution.
