Liberty Lightning Swim Team

The Liberty Lightning swim team competed commendably and concluded its season with an ninth place overall finish at the Washtenaw County Interclub Swim Conference Championships last week. Many of our swimmers dropped their times significantly throughout the season. Congratulations to the team and their coaches for a very successful season!

Corn on the Cob

Corn on the cob with salt and butter screams summer. Another delicious way to eat corn on the cob is as elote.
Elote (makes 4 servings)

Ingredients
  • 4 ears of corn on the cob, cooked
  • 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • cayenne pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cotija cheese, shredded
  • 2 Tbsp cilantro, chopped

Directions
  1. In a small bowl, combine the mayo, lime juice, chili powder, cayenne, and salt. Stir until combined.
  2. In a separate small bowl, mix the cheese and cilantro together
  3. Brush the mayo mix on an ear of corn, then sprinkle plenty of the cheese mix on it, turning to coat the whole ear.
  4. Repeat on the other ears.
  5. If you want more heat, sprinkle cayenne pepper

Jr. Tennis Match at Racquet Club

For our competitive junior players, there is a Junior Tennis match at Racquet Club (weather dependent) on Friday August 12 from 2:30-4:30 pm. This is open to players in all of the Liberty Junior Competitive Programs. I will select 12-16 players from the various groups to participate in this match. Tennis Pro Dean Boodakian will be running the match.  Please email me at dan.goldberg@libertyathletic.net if your child is interested in playing.
Tennis Tip of the Month
"The Off Season"
For many tennis players the month of August represents the "off season" as USTA league matches are winding down and the indoor season resumes in September. This is the perfect time to evaluate your game and focus on specific areas of improvement. Maybe it's shoring up that weak backhand or being a more assertive volleyer in doubles. Working on the ball machine or taking a private lesson with a pro is a great way to improve your skills. This is also a good time to improve your footwork, strength and flexibility which will assist in higher on-court performance and injury prevention. Remember, the top pros spend just as much time off the court training as they do on the court.
Adult and Junior Tennis Programs
There are still several weeks left in the Liberty summer tennis program and there is space in most classes.

Summer tennis classes will run through August 25. Fall tennis classes will resume on September 6.
