Sunday's Readings for the Baptism of the Lord:
First Reading — Isaiah speaks of the Servant whom the Lord upholds; he shall bring forth justice to the nations
(Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7) or Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11.
Psalm — The Lord will bless his people with peace
(Psalm 29) or Psalm 104.
Second Reading — Jesus was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit; he went out healing and doing good
(Acts 10:34-38) or Titus 2:11-14; 3:4-7.
Gospel — A voice comes from heaven proclaiming Jesus as the beloved Son, with whom God is well pleased
(Luke 3:15-16, 21-22).

Baptismal Death and Resurrection |
As we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, we also honor our own baptism as our initiation into the Christian life and community. In the Gospel, the baptism of Jesus, with his immersion and then emergence from the water, points to his later submission to God at his death, and his emergence from the grave at his resurrection. This pattern of death and resurrection is our path too, as followers of Jesus.
Throughout life, often in small ways, we learn to surrender our limited and self-centered agendas. This surrender often feels like death. The sacrament of Baptism ritually enacts this pattern to remind us of Jesus’ death and resurrection, so that we too might embrace the deaths and resurrections of our own lives.
As Jesus emerged from the water, he encountered his Father and the Holy Spirit. Like Jesus, we can know we are God’s beloved, empowered by the Spirit.

Friday, January 7, 2022 is First Friday. Eucharistic Adoration will begin immediately following Morning Mass at St. Julian in Shea Hall (we are moving Adoration this week due to a Funeral Mass), approximately 8:45am, and continue until the Closing Benediction at 11:45am.
And, please remember that we also have Eucharistic Adoration and Reconciliation each Wednesday evening at 7pm at Queen of the Rosary.
Start your new year off right by spending some quiet time with Our Lord.

Lectio Eucharist: Discovering the Mass in the Bible |
Acclaimed author and teacher Dr. Brant Pitre digs down to the biblical roots of the Eucharist, through its foreshadowing in the miraculous events of the Old Testament, the Gospels, and Apostolic teaching.
"The Lamb of God," "The Bread of Life," "The Body and the Blood of Christ"... these are phrases we know from the Mass. But do we understand what they mean in the greater and deeper context of Scripture and Church teaching? We'll discover firsthand how Christ's Body and Blood are an integral and wondrous part of God's plan for our salvation.

Join Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Respect Life Ministry as we unite with more than 10,000 pro-life individuals across the Midwest at the 2022 Chicago March for Life on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament is sponsoring bus transportation to the 2022 Chicago March for Life. The bus will depart the parking lot at St. Julian at 11:30am and return to St. Julian between 4:30 and 5pm, following the Rally and March.
Our theme for this year's March will be Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Stands for LIFE!

QR School partners with parents in the formation of children by offering an education that combines Catholic faith and teachings with academic excellence. We prepare students to be productive citizens and future leaders by emphasizing moral development and self-discipline and teaching students the value of service to others.

Children in Grades 4 and up are privileged to serve at Masses at OLBS on weekends, Holy Days, funerals and weddings.
