HIGHLIGHTING APP PRACTICE
AT UCSF HEALTH
Erin Andersen, NP
Ambulatory Associate Chief Nursing Officer
Erin Andersen, NP, has been selected to replace Shirley Kedrowski, MSN, RN, as Ambulatory Associate Chief Nursing Officer. The change will be effective September 7, 2021.

Erin’s journey into the health care field was non-traditional. She earned her BA in history and piano performance from the College of Idaho and her early professional jobs included stints in education, technical writing, corporate training and safety. She has been with UCSF over 2 decades. She entered the School of Nursing’s masters’ entry program where she graduated with a Master’s of Science degree with an emphasis in occupational health. She was then hired as a nurse practitioner in the Occupational Health Clinic and eventually became the Administrative Director over Occupational Health Services, Worker’s Compensation and Ergonomics. While there, she oversaw a national award-winning employee vaccination program, led the department through multiple successful regulatory visits and developed an innovative program that reduced computer-related injuries by 30%. She later moved to the Division of General Medicine (DGIM) where she served as the Clinical Nurse Manager and, most recently, the Administrative Director. At DGIM, she oversaw efforts that increased cancer screenings, decreased refill turn-around times and piloted a collaborative care program for depression. She has also helped lead a Care Transformation project that utilized LEAN methodology to develop a “One Touch” concept to address patient needs, improved patient experience and increased employee and provider engagement. Under her leadership, DGIM has successfully adopted a robust continuous improvement and problem-solving culture. In addition to her experience at UCSF, she has also worked as a nurse practitioner in primary care, urgent care and orthopedics, wrote a regular column for the Journal of Occupational Health Nursing and was a nurse consultant to Federal OSHA in the field of ergonomics.
When not at work, Erin can be found hiking the hills of San Francisco with her partner Ericka and their two labradoodles in an effort to walk every street of the City. An accomplished musician, she enjoys playing the piano and can occasionally be persuaded to perform with singers and instrumentalists.
Shelley Gierat MSN, CRNA is a co-author on a case report published in Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology in May, 2021.
BACKGROUND:
While there exist case reports of anaphylaxis occurring during renal transplant surgery, descriptions of continuing transplant surgery post-anaphylaxis have been scarce. Anaphylactic reactions that present solely with hypotension without pulmonary or mucocutaneous signs have yet to be described during renal transplant surgery.

Feeling reentry anxiety? Expert advice on navigating COVID-19 reopenings
The American Psychological Association reports that Americans are experiencing the highest levels of stress since April 2020, and that half of surveyed adults are uneasy about returning to in-person interactions. It’s as if each of us, having spent the last year adrift in space, alone or in our small pods, now has to navigate a reentry into coexistence.

Guidelines for Reimbursement of Meals
Provided for Remote Meetings

Many campuses have been receiving requests from employees for reimbursements of meal expenses associated with working from home during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place. It is important to remember that employees who are working from home are not on travel status as defined in Business and Finance Bulletin G-28, Travel Regulations, as “the period during which a traveler is traveling on official University business outside the vicinity of their headquarters or residence.” Because employees who are working from home are not on travel status, they are not eligible for meal reimbursement.

Similarly, requests for reimbursement of meals taken at home (or delivered) during a Zoom business meeting or employee morale event are not reimbursable under policy. Per Business and Finance Bulletin BUS-79, a business meeting requires an in-person host, and is intended for on-premises and/or in-person meetings of employees. None of those factors would occur, for example, if an employee is reimbursed or provided a meal for consumption at their own home during a Zoom meeting or event with colleagues.

Campuses can reimburse or provide meals for non-employees that are associated with on-line donor cultivation events. Similarly, campuses can provide a meal to a non-employee guest who is attending a University-sponsored meeting or event. And, students who are not employees and participating in a remote student-related programmatic activity can be provided a meal voucher if attending the on-line event. Campuses have the discretion whether to provide meal gift cards in these situations.

ALL APP STUDENTS AT UCSF HEALTH FACILITIES
All preceptors are required to ensure all students from ALL educational institutions have been vetted by UCSF prior to any educational activities, including employees. UCSF has many parts of the organization involved in this process. Their school needs an affiliation agreement with UCSF, they need health screening to be completed, they require online training for Health and Safety and APEX, and sign a HIPPA form.
