ICS Board of Governors Announces Interim CEO Assignment The Irvington Community School, Inc. Board of Governors (BOG) has named James Welter, ICS Chief Academic Officer, as the Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Welter joined Irvington Community Schools in 2017 as Director of Testing, Data and Technology. Throughout the past four years, James' role evolved to include curriculum oversight, grant writing and compliance, and program development for unique learners. In July 2021, he was appointed to the role of Chief Academic Officer and will continue in that role while taking on the additional responsibilities of the Interim CEO. The ICS Board of Governors has begun to assemble the foundation of an executive search committee whose sole purpose is to conduct an effective and equitable search for the organization’s long-term leader. More information on the executive search process will be presented at the upcoming BOG's September 28, 2021 meeting. -- A message from James Welter, ICS Interim CEO/ Chief Academic Officer It really is an honor to serve as Interim CEO for Irvington Community Schools. The pandemic has not been easy for our students and families. And, at times, we can fall into the trap of focusing on all of the challenges. But, if you’re willing to look at the bright side, the pandemic has also brought us a lot of opportunity: our parents and students appreciate more than ever the importance of in-person instruction; the ICS Board is more engaged in our schools than ever before; and our staff understand the importance and breadth of their work. And, yes, this year is going to be challenging and there will be many obstacles to overcome. However, I am excited about the opportunities these challenges bring. And, perhaps, more so about what embracing these challenges mean in terms of producing positive outcomes for Irvington Community Schools and our students.
