Design Guidelines Changes Draft
Member Comments Due by Monday, August 1, 2022

BHA's Architectural Review Committees (Sections A and B) have made suggested changes for the 26th edition of the Design Guidelines. The Board will consider the draft changes at its August 12th meeting for final approval. If approved, the revised Design Guidelines will become effective August 12, 2022.

Click HERE for the redlined draft of Design Guidelines changes. Click HERE for the current, 25th edition Design Guidelines. For a list of current review fees, click HERE.

Members can review and comment on proposed changes through Monday, August 1, 2022. BHA encourages member feedback. Send comments to ARC Coordinator Fran Pagliaro at fran@baldheadassociation.com or call 910-457-4676, ext. 22.

It is BHA's intention that there will be no additional changes to the Design Guidelines until the next review cycle done in 2023.
Notice of Special Meeting of
BHA Board of Directors
Thursday, July 28, 11:00am

A Special Meeting of the BHA Board of Directors is scheduled for Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 11:00am. The meeting will be held at the circle on Sandpiper Trail, just off West Bald Head Wynd. We will gather at that location initially.

The purpose for this meeting will be to consider an alternate proposal which has been submitted to the BHA Board to provide long-term access to 32 and 34 Sandpiper Trail from West Bald Head Wynd in the form of a driveway, across BHA Common Area. This issue was presented to the BHA membership in February 2022, and the Board approved the request. However, the Village and the property owner(s) have since presented an alternative plan. Because this would cross Common Area, we are required to approve this in order for it to proceed forward.

The alternative draft site plan was prepared by Shawn Wilkerson of Wetlands Engineering, who also owns 34 Sandpiper Trail. The previously approved plan for cart access skirted around the boundaries of the wetlands that are on BHA Common Area, which were defined by Land Management Group, contracted by the Village. The new, alternative site plan shows the driveway is a straight access to the homes and will presumably disturb less of the Common Area.

At this meeting Village Manager Chris McCall will provide us information about this proposed alternative access. BHA members are invited to attend.

Immediately after this information session, we will go to the BHA Association Center (111 Lighthouse Wynd) and consider whether or not to approve the application of the Village. Village officials and interested members of the BHA will be invited to join the Special Meeting of the BHA Board of Directors, and anyone interested in speaking to whether or not the Village's alternative plan should be approved will be given the opportunity to address the Board.

Maps of the previously approved (image 1) and the alternative (image 2) driveway access site plans can be viewed HERE.

BHA members are invited to attend and participate. The meeting will be held in person and online via Zoom, with a recording of the meeting posted on BHA's website within 24 hours following the meeting. Click HERE for the meeting link. Here are call-in instructions:

BHA Board of Directors
Résumé Submittals to BHA's Nomination Committee
Deadline July 31, 2022
BHA encourages any and all who are interested to apply for the Board. This year we have one specific need we want you to consider.

One of the most important responsibilities the BHA has is to manage responsibly the millions of dollars of money we collect from our members. We must have a Board member overseeing the finances who is formally educated in either finance and/or accounting and has had meaningful work experience in these areas in order to perform these duties.

The Board believes it would be particularly helpful to the BHA to have one of the two directors elected in January 2023 to be someone qualified to serve as a Treasurer during Robert Drumheller’s final year. This will permit this newly elected director to serve as an Assistant Treasurer for a year, learn the duties of the Treasurer and be in a position to assume those duties in January 2024 when Robert’s second term expires. Accordingly, we encourage any member who is so qualified and would be willing to serve to let the Nominations Committee know. Anyone interested in getting involved with BHA at its Board level can submit his/her resume to Nominating Committee Chair John Kinney at kinney.aj@gmail.com by July 31, 2022, for consideration for the 2023 Board of Directors.

We Need Volunteers!
Architectural Review Committee (ARC)

The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) still needs several volunteers, due to a larger-than-normal number of volunteers rotating off the ARC in January 2022 because of an overlap of committee terms beginning in the same year of the merger with the former Stage II. In order to stagger future term lengths, BHA is seeking 1-, 2- or 3-year commitments. Please consider helping Bald Head Island with your time, skills and knowledge.

Eighteen ARC members are allowed per BHA Covenants, and we still need several volunteers for both Sections A and B. Members with a background in art, design, landscaping, architecture, engineering, conservancy and/or human resources are encouraged to volunteer. To learn more about ARC and all BHA committees, click HERE. To volunteer, select the volunteer application at the top of this committee web page, complete the online form, save it and send it to Executive Director Carrie Moffett at carrie@baldheadassociation.com. Thank you!
