This Sunday's Sermon and Song List
This week we're starting a three week series on some core Christian doctrines. We'll have two messages on what the Bible says about sin and then wrap up with more on what our statement of faith says about the attributes of God.
This Sunday's Message: "What is Sin?" Sin has many sides. It can be easy to see but also easily hidden. We'll see together that sin is a culture, it comes from an adulterous human heart, it is a thought, an infant ogre, a predatory cat, and a seductive woman. We will look at each of these sides in succession and as we do I hope your spiritual eyes will be enlightened to see that sin is not something to love, lay down under, or guilt trip yourself with - sin is something to kill.

Scriptures: Romans 3:22-27, James 4:1-4; Gen 3:1-6; James 1:13-15; Gen 4:7; Proverbs 5:1-14

To get yourself ready to sing on Sunday you can start listening to the songs we'll be singing together:
  • Holy Is The Lord
  • What A Beautiful Name
  • The Heart Of Worship
  • This Is Amazing Grace
We created a playlist on Youtube in case you want to start listening today. You can find that by clicking HERE.
New Adult Sunday School Class:
The Gospel Centered Life
Lots of Christians talk about the gospel, but how many really understand the gospel and know how to apply it to their lives? Featuring nine self-contained lessons with discussion questions, articles, and practical exercises The Gospel-Centered Life helps us understand how the gospel shapes every aspect of life.

The impact of this study and how it points to plain, but transformational biblical truth cannot be overemphasized. For some of you this will be like walking a familiar trail but this positions you nicely to be of real help and encouragement to those that are less familiar with the subject. Join us for discussion on how the gospel truly tells us what life is all about and how to live it!
Women's Prayer Meetings
Prayer, prayer and more prayer. All women are encouraged to participate in our prayer time Thursday, October 7th, at 2:00 PM. We will meet in the Women's Ministry area and will dedicate our time to prayer for individuals, our church, our city and area, our state, and our nation. We plan to meet for prayer every first Thursday at 2:00 PM and third Thursdays at 7:00 PM throughout 2021. Please join us!

The Josties in Concert at Discovery- September 30th!
The Josties are a unique family band, sharing their original music with humor and authenticity. Their 14 years of touring and travel experience throughout Canada and the USA have given them exposure to the hearts and minds of America. It's exciting to see what God is doing in the big picture!
Their desire is to reflect that passion and hope with each person they meet, and for the audience to experience His presence, joy and freedom.

You will feel like family and laugh or cry right along with them as they sing, play and share. Their latest album, Don't Forget About Love, was nominated for Folk Album of the year by the Gospel Music Association of Canada.
"Help! God Doesn't Answer My Prayers!"
This past Sunday we talked about Elijah and the Prophets of Baal from 1 Kings 18. We know from looking at James 5:17-18 that one “takeaway” from this story is about the power of prayer. The priests of Baal prayed fervently but “No one answered; no one paid attention” (1 Kings 18:29). It becomes apparent that the LORD is the true God because he paid attention to Elijah’s prayer. He answered. But we don’t always feel like Elijah on Mt. Carmel. Sometimes we feel like the prophets of Baal. “No one is answering. No one is paying attention.” What do we make of this?

First: It’s worth repeating what was said this past Sunday. “What does the Christian have when he feels like no one is answering or hearing his prayers? The Christian has the cross of Christ – the Christian has a Savior who actually said, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ And what is God doing in that moment where His own Son is crying out – bleeding all over himself like one of those Baal prophets with no answer? What is God doing in that moment? Here’s what: He’s saving the world.
Christ’s cross is certainly a greater trial than anything you or I will ever endure. Certainly the cross of Christ is a greater challenge to God’s power than any water soaked altar. At the cross his own Son is soaked in death and wrath and how does God answer this challenge to his power? How does God answer this challenge to his goodness? How does God respond to the prayers of His own Son on the cross? Here’s how: He raises him from the dead. He gives him a crown, a throne, and a multitude of forgiven sinners to call friends and brothers and sisters.

Men's Noon Bible Study on Thursdays
Resumes September 23rd
Every Thursday at Noon a few guys pack lunch and sit down to talk about the sermon text for that coming Sunday. This is a great time of conversation that helps all of us get excited about Sunday worship. Not only that, it helps me as the preacher think through things that I might not think about on my own. Different minds, generations and personalities all bring something to the table and help influence the sermon content for that Sunday. If your lunch hour is free on Thursdays you should check it out! We're off this coming Thursday but will resume our usual study time again on September 23rd.
FREE Books — A table is set up by the coat rack with free books. If you see anything that interests you, please feel free to take them. There is no need to return them.
