Dear Trinity Episcopal Church,
As I've been preparing for Palm Sunday, I've also been thinking back on Palm Sundays I've celebrated before. One year on Palm Sunday in high school, I remember parading around our Episcopal church, waving a palm frond, and listening to a trumpet player blast out that great hymn, "All glory, laud, and honor." I remember saying to myself, "I wonder what the neighbors think of us?"
Though it is a strange day in the church year, I hope that we come away from Palm Sunday inspired by the mercy, grace, and compassion of Jesus. And that, in turn, we share those same values with our neighbors. Then our neighbors will not only think of us as the strange people who parade around their church with foliage, but as the people committed to love.
Along those lines, I also encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors to church with you for Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter. As we remember the great love given to us through Jesus Christ, this is an wonderful opportunity to invite someone else to feel that love, too.
With peace,
Jimmy
