Summer Success Story #1
New Cleveland Heights Learn-to-Swim and Summer Camp Programs Sell Out!
This year, the City of Cleveland Heights introduced two new approaches to its traditional summer programming:
Urban Swim CLE Heights, an extracurricular athletic swim program founded by Heights residents and two-time Olympic trial athlete Eddis Singleton, began teaching swimming skills at Cumberland Pool.
Heights United, which was founded by Cleveland Heights High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame member, teacher, and coach, Sean Sullivan, provided a Soccer Academy and Day Camp for the City.
Both programs have been wildly successful. Heights United has sold out all of its slots for campers for the entire summer. Urban Swim CLE Heights filled all 90 of its learn-to-swim opportunities during Session 2, and has only a few spots remaining for its Session 3 classes which begin in two weeks.
Congratulations to both programs for achieving so much for Cleveland Heights!

American Rescue Plan Public Engagement Meeting
Thursday, July 28, at 6:30 pm
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 or ARPA is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill to speed up the United States' recovery from the economic and health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
ARPA funds provide eligible state and local governments with a substantial infusion of resources to meet the needs of responding to the pandemic and rebuild a stronger and more equitable economy.
The City of Cleveland Heights was awarded $38.8 million and has been working to identify eligible projects. The City has already allocated $18 million for sewer projects and $10 million for revenue replacement.
On Thursday, July 28, at 6:30 pm, the City of Cleveland Heights will hold a public meeting at the Cleveland Heights Community Center, 1 Monticello Boulevard, about how the City should prioritize its remaining ARPA funds.

The Cleveland Heights Happy 5k/10k Race Returns!
Sunday, October 2, 2022
The Cleveland Heights Youth Scholarship Fund was established to help ensure all children in Cleveland Heights have opportunities to participate in our city’s great community recreational programs. The Youth Scholarship Fund is funded solely by private donors and more than half the money for these scholarships has been raised through the annual Cleveland Heights Happy 5k/10k Race.
The Happy 5k/10k showcases the best of Cleveland Heights. It starts with an “All are Welcome” one-mile fun run/walk for all ages. Then, racers compete on a 5k/10k course through the streets of Cleveland Heights. You can see the course map here.
Runners can race as individuals and as part of merchant-sponsored teams—and many compete in costume! Awards are granted for top finishers in age categories, for the largest and fastest merchant teams, and for best costume.
During the first four years of the race we have raised more than $40,000 that has paid for more than 300 community recreation scholarships. Because of COVID-19, we haven’t been able to hold a Happy 5k/10k since 2019 and the Youth Scholarship Fund has had to stretch its resources. If you're a runner (or would like to be one) we can use your help!
This year’s 6th Annual Happy 5k/10k race will take place on Sunday, October 2, 2022.
To register, please visit the Happy 5k/10k registration page. Registration prices increase as of August 2nd, so register now to save money—and still support a great cause!

RECYCLING PRO TIP
Hold Your Recycling Until Your Cart is Full
More residents than ever have been recycling since the city rolled out its new recycling carts and automated collection systems. It’s exciting to see everyone doing their part to help the environment.
Residents can help to conserve energy by waiting until their recycling carts are full (or close to full) before placing them at the curb for collection. This will result in fewer stops and less fuel expended during the collection process.
Since all recycling should be clean before it is placed in the recycling cart, holding onto your partially filled recycling carts shouldn’t cause a nuisance.
DO NOT hold onto your trash. Your refuse cart should still always be placed out weekly.
Don’t Worry.
The Person Peering into Your Recycling/Refuse Carts is a Professional
During the next six weeks, city employees will survey trash collection routes to determine the progress of our new automated collection program and continue educating residents so that we may experience the full benefits of this program.
Please don’t be alarmed if you see someone lifting the tops to your carts. All employees conducting this survey will be wearing safety vests and have identification. You may receive a reminder if you are not placing your trash or recycling out correctly.

On Monday, July 18, Cleveland Heights, in partnership with NOACA & CuyahogaCounty’s Department of Public Works, will begin Phase 1 of new roadway rehabilitation/safety improvements along Superior Road.
Superior Road will be closed to through traffic between Lee and Mayfield Roads (local access only). The City advises motorists to seek alternative routes and use caution in the area during construction.
Phase 1 improvements will be completed in time for the beginning of school in mid-August and include pavement resurfacing, spot curb replacement, base repairs, ADA-accessible curb ramps, drainage structures, and utility hole adjustments.

Josh Admon, Nubeigel's owner and chef, ran a coffee and pastry shop in Jerusalem for 15 years. Nubeigel is a kosher establishment featuring a selection of hand-rolled, boiled, and freshly baked artisan "beigels."
Guests who visit Nubeigel can build beigel sandwiches on five different flavors of beigels: plain, sesame, poppy, everything, and everything spicy.
They can then choose among seven flavors of cream cheese--plain, kalamata olives, capers & red onion, sriracha, horseradish dill, peanut butter and jelly, and cinnamon raisin nut--and six different "other things"--smoked salmon, kimchi, capers, red onion, tomato, or cucumber.
City staff happily reports that these beigels are OUTSTANDING!
