ILS Chair's News & Notes

May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing

but happiness come through your door.

- Irish Proverb

Dear ILS Members,

It is hard to believe that we are already in March and that there are only 3 months left to this year’s term. On June 23, 2023, we will gather at the Boca Raton Resort for our annual meeting. In preparation for the meeting, the Executive Board has begun looking for ILS’ next leaders. If you are interested in serving on the Executive Council or serving as our Section’s Vice-Treasurer, please email me a brief statement of interest describing your leadership experience and why you believe you are qualified for the position. Statements of interest must be received on or before April 30, 2023.

Have a wonderful weekend and happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Best regards,

Jacqueline Villalba, Esq.

Internship Opportunity Organized by the Paris Bar for Both English and French Speaking Lawyers!

Since 1991, the Paris Bar organizes a unique training program for young French speaking lawyers, in partnership with the Ecole de Formation professionnelle des Barreaux du ressort de la cour d'appel de Paris (EFB).  The "Stage International" brings together young French speaking lawyers from all over the world for a two-month theoretical and practical training.  Since 2015, the Paris Bar also organizes a second version of the program for English speaking lawyers called the "International Program".

Both programs are organized in cooperation with foreign bar associations and are supported by some French Embassies abroad. The Stage International will take place from October to November 2023 (8 weeks).  The International Program will take place in May and June 2023 (exact dates to be confirmed by the Paris Bar).

The internship offers participants an introduction to the French legal system.  In the first month of the Stage International the foreign lawyers will participate in programs of the “Ecole de Formation du Barreau” to be able to understand the French legal system and its procedures.  Participants are able to discover the daily routine of the Palais de Justice by attending hearings, visiting the major French institutions and getting an insight of European law.  In the second month, the foreign lawyers will have the opportunity to experience Parisian legal life and will intern in a Parisian Law Firm.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Europe Committee Chair Susanne Leone at sleone@leonezhgun.com for more information.

If you are reading the Gazette, chances are that you are a practitioner or a student with an interest in International Law, one of the most wide-ranging, exciting and challenging legal specialties. Everyone in our field knows how crucial it is to stay on top of diverse and evolving national legal regimes, and at the same time, the difficulty of keeping meticulously up-to-date on developments around the world.

The International Law Section (ILS) of The Florida Bar is here to help you, the practitioner, navigate both the everyday and big-picture challenges of our field. Let ILS membership assist you in developing a thriving international practice through peer network development that includes important shared learnings and reciprocal referrals of clients and casework.

If your practice transcends borders, join us in making this the authoritative, go-to forum for Florida and the gateway to the region for anyone practicing International Law. Our Section is open to lawyers from other states and countries, full-time faculty at U.S. law schools, and full-time U.S. law students, all of whom may participate as associate members.
