Message from the Principal

Dear Mullan Road Families,

We are lucky to have such an amazing team of students, families, and staff members. You are outstanding Trailblazers in exhibiting positivity and kindness.

Many of us have faced challenges, and we have worked creatively to find solutions. A large part of growing and learning is making mistakes; we learn from those mistakes and make improvements for tomorrow. I encourage you to use the acronym T.A.P.E. (Togetherness is a result of Attitude, Perseverance, and Effort.) We are inspired by the growth we have seen in students and by the persistence and perseverance families have shown this year. Thank you for making Mullan Road an incredible place to learn and grow!

Sincerely,

Mr. Beal

Principal

We are looking for donations of stand-alone basketball hoops. St. Stephen’s church was kind enough to lend us their basketball hoops during COVID. Many were damaged through use by our community and extreme weather. We will be replacing hoops out of Mullan Road PTG funds if we are unable to secure enough donated hoops.

Additionally, our PBIS behavioral reinforcement team is working on securing donated high interest items that students can select after improving behavior based upon specific goals. Donations are tax deductible as our PTG is a 501C3 and can give a receipt for donated items.

Items that may be in your home that you can donate:

  • Highly Engaging Books
  • Collectable Cards
  • Comic Books
  • Action Figures
  • Stickers
  • Coloring books
  • Stamps
  • Lightly used art supplies
  • Athletic Equipment

SCLD Summer Programs

Spokane County Library District has free in-person summer programs, take and make activities, and an online reading challenge for kids, tweens, teens, and families. Our programs for kids are tons of fun with learning built in!

Our summer programs start June 21 with a series of outdoor concerts featuring Zaniac Alex Zerbe and musician Eric Herman. I’ve attached a flyer with a few of this summer’s highlights to share with your students and their families.

The Online Summer Reading Challenge “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” begins June 1 and gives students the ability to track their reading minutes, earn badges, complete challenges, and enter a fabulous prize drawing. Parents and students can sign up with Beanstack at https://scld.beanstack.org/reader365.

We have resumed in person programs and SCLD libraries are open to the public for browsing, borrowing, and using our computers. We are excited to welcome children and families back into the library and to help them find all the books they need to keep learning and growing over the summer.

Promotion

6th grade promotion will be held on Thursday, June 16th at 10:00am in the Gym. Please enter the Gym through the Gym doors located on the East side of the building by entering through the gates by Big Blue. While we are so excited to celebrate we ask that you please limit the amount of guests to 4 per students and leave K-5 students in their class. Younger students will have the opportunity to celebrate older siblings in our Promotion Parade on the last day of school.

School Attire

As the days begin to get warmer, we want to remind parents that students should come to school in attire that is not a distraction to the learning environment and maintains safety for all students. For example: students' shoes and clothing should allow them to play on a variety of surfaces and be conducive to athletic activities both in PE and recess.

If your child is wearing something that is a concern the student will be discreetly talked to by a counselor and a phone call will be made home to work on a solution to support your child in safe and appropriate school day attire. We appreciate your partnership.
