FATHER’S DAY EVENT RECAP

Hundreds of families joined us to celebrate

On Saturday, June 15th, the Armenian and Latino communities of Mission Hills came together for a spectacular Father’s Day BBQ that drew a crowd of over 1,000 attendees. This vibrant event, held to honor the father figures who play pivotal roles in their families and neighborhoods, was a resounding success, blending cultural festivities, delicious food, and heartfelt tributes.

From the beginning, the event buzzed with excitement. A variety of booths showcased local businesses and community services, providing attendees with information and engaging activities. The mouth-watering aroma of grilled meats filled the air, as over 2,000 tacos and 800 hot dogs were served to eager guests. The menu featured an array of delicious options including chicken and carne asada tacos, which were a big hit among the attendees.

One of the highlights was the surprise lowrider car show, which featured stunning vehicles and drew gasps of admiration from the crowd. Adding to the excitement were the Rancheros, men on horses, and 12 impressive choppers that paraded through the event, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the community. Special guest appearances included the iconic and popular podcast group, American Cholo, adding star power to the day.

PESA played a pivotal role as a co-sponsor of the event. Their contributions went beyond providing food and donations; PESA staff hosted a booth to inform attendees about their various family services and youth programs. Steven Martinez, PESA’s Community Outreach Coordinator, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “Our main goal is to bring back family unity and community enrichment. It is important to celebrate the fathers that work so hard for their communities and families.”

The event also featured several award presentations, highlighting the dedication and service of remarkable fathers. PESA’s Executive Director was honored with the Best Community Non-Profit award and named Father of the Year for his exceptional contributions. Chris Garcia received an award for Military Dad, recognizing his service and sacrifice. Additionally, Andres Andy Arriola, a veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq, was celebrated as Veteran Dad.

The Father’s Day BBQ was more than just a celebration; it was a testament to the power of community collaboration and the significant role fathers play in nurturing and leading their families. The success of this event underscored the importance of community unity and the impact of collective efforts in creating memorable and meaningful experiences.
