President’s Message

Dear Friends,

With spring on the horizon, the Kansas Abortion Fund is charging ahead with renewed energy and a solid plan of action to fight for legal and accessible abortion care in Kansas. During the month of April, we celebrate our annual Fund-a-Thon, with a special online event with two amazingly stellar guest speakers—Julie Rikelman, Litigation Director at the Center for Reproductive Rights, and Brigitte Amiri, Deputy Director of the ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Project. Please join us, as we promise this will be the collective re-booting we all need to continue the long fight for reproductive justice.

Following the Fund-a-Thon, we launch into full onboard support for defeating the unjust anti-abortion Kansas constitutional amendment by urging everyone to VOTE NO on August 2nd, 2022. If passed, this amendment will allow the state legislature to further regulate pregnant people’s bodies and strip them of their right to determine if, when, and under what circumstances, they become parents. It’s up to all of us, folks, to push back on the state’s control over people’s lives and keep abortion safe and legal in the state of Kansas. This is truly a history-defining moment. Let’s make this happen together!

Gratitudes
“I have no words to express my gratitude for the Kansas Abortion Fund. Thank you for funding my abortion! My sense of relief is enormous.”

“I felt as if I was in despair one minute, and then comforted the next! Thank you for assisting me. I have my life back and I’m so grateful.”
Anti-Abortion Constitutional Amendment Update

We are proud to serve on the Steering Committee of the coalition fighting the constitutional amendment on our ballots August 2 that attempts to end the right to abortion in Kansas. The coalition is called Kansans for Constitutional Freedom, and we encourage you to follow them on social media and share whatever you can with them, whether that’s volunteer hours or donations. The coalition has been busy researching the electorate, making a plan to win at the ballot box, and ensuring the whole state knows exactly what’s at stake this August. We’ve already seen the heartbreaking, infuriating consequences of of abortion being effectively banned in Texas. Kansas abortion providers, along with providers in states adjacent to Texas, are overwhelmed with the Texan patients with enough resources to travel for abortions. More states are following in Texas’ lead or will soon. It is absolutely essential that Kansas remain a state where the right to abortion is protected, not only for Kansans, but for the Midwest and the South. The most important things you can do are: 1. ensure that you, your family, and your friends are registered to vote by going to ksvotes.org, and 2. ensure that those same folks have a plan to vote no on the abortion amendment on August 2.

Ad abortion per aspera!
It’s springtime in Kansas, which means a mixture of snow and warmth and the kickoff of our biggest annual fundraiser, Fund-A-Thon! We hope to be back in person in 2023, but we’re ending the era of Zoom with a bang. Join us on April 12 at 4pm for a panel featuring two of the leading reproductive rights attorneys in the US: Julie Rikelman, Litigation Director at the Center for Reproductive Rights, and Brigitte Amiri, Deputy Director of the ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Project. We’ll hear about the hugely consequential cases they’ve litigated, the future of abortion rights and access, and why Kansas matters in this national fight. RSVP on Facebook or at bit.ly/kaf2022. You don’t have to wait until the 12th to build a team or donate as an individual-you can register or donate now at bit.ly/fundkaf2022! Everyone who donates and/or attends our kickoff event is eligible for fabulous abortion-positive prizes. We can’t wait to see you!
