IRONMAN SUNDAY

SEPTEMBER 29, 2024

It's September and that means Ironman!

Sunday, September 29th is "Ironman Sunday"

the last Sunday of the month.

We'll be on the Portico THIS SUNDAY

following the 11 AM service for sign-ups.

What is happening at Saint Paul’s on Ironman Sunday?

We have a fantastic day planned. Here is what is happening on race day:

● Race Day Hospitality in the River Room 5 AM - 11 AM

We will open the River Room for race day hospitality for athletes and spectators at 5 AM on Sunday morning. We will serve coffee and refreshments and provide a comfortable place for our guests to relax and fellowship.

● Cheer Station on the Riverwalk 12 PM - 4 PM

Join us as we line the run course on the Riverwalk outside of the River Room and cheer on the runners. We will give out water, ice, and popsicles and share cheers of encouragement and high fives. We will also have music and lots of cow bells.

● Grilling on the Riverwalk 12 PM - 2 PM

New this year🎉 There are lots of visitors in the area looking for a place to eat. We are pulling the grills out and will grill in the afternoon. Food will be available for visitors and parishioners for a donation.

We have a scheduling conflict with the River Room this year and will NOT host the Saint Paul’s/Tri Augusta Pasta Dinner on Saturday night this year. No worries, it will be back next year!

How can I get involved with Ironman Sunday?

Baking

One of our favorite traditions on race weekend is providing home-baked treats for our guests. Parishioners bake cookies, brownies, or bring their favorite treat. These goodies are a special part of our hospitality. You can drop off your goodies at the church during the week or on Saturday or race day.

Race Day Hospitality

Sunday morning between 5 AM - 11 AM

We will have a small group arriving at 5 AM to get everything together. If you are an early bird, join us! If you like to sleep a little later, just drop in anytime between 5 AM and 11 AM. We will need help with serving coffee and refreshments, and it is wonderful to have parishioners in the River Room to welcome guests and make them feel at home.

Grilling on the Riverwalk

Sunday afternoon between 12 PM - 2 PM

We will be grilling on the River Walk. We need a few volunteers to help with grilling and serving.

Cheer Station

Sunday afternoons between 12 PM - 4 PM

We will line the River Walk outside of the River Room and hand cups of water, ice, and popsicles to the runners. We also play music, ring cowbells, and cheer on the athletes to encourage them on the last leg of their race. It is always lots of fun for all.

Other important things to know for Race Day

You may be wondering, “How is church going to work on Sunday, September 29th?”

Here is how it works:

● We will have our regular schedule for services and Christian formation for adults and kids. This is a great Sunday to invite a friend!

● Dress comfortably and casually this Sunday so you are ready to jump in and be part of the activities. It is a great day to wear a Saint Paul’s t-shirt!

● We have worked with the city regarding traffic and parking on race day. Parking in both lots will be reserved for our church activities. Our church leadership met with Ironman, the Augusta Sports Council, and Richmond County after last year’s race and have discussed race day traffic/parking issues involving Saint Paul’s and the race event.

● The race director for Ironman reported that Saint Paul’s Church is one of the reasons people give for returning to Augusta for the race. Our church has welcomed visitors and lived out loving our neighbors for over 10 years. Thank you for being the hands of Christ and welcoming all.
