Celebrating National Art and Humanities Month

In 1993, Americans for the Arts expanded National Arts Week into a month-long celebration of the arts (taking place in October) and titled it National Arts and Humanities Month.

To celebrate this, LOLA Arts will be illuminating the magic of art through classes, exhibits, performances, and workshops. Take a look below to see some of the ARTober Magic program offerings.

Sept 22 Photo-LOLA Zoom Class

Join Photo-LOLA instructor Mark Schermeister at this1-hr online presentation designed to prepare you for the Saturday, September 25 on-location Autumn Photography Workshop. Enroll in one or both experiences; the preparatory zoom class and the workshop.


Sept 25 Making Glass Beads

Create your own beads using glass rods and fire with instructor Julie Lukosaitis! This is a beginner's class, but if you have had experience making glass beads, Julie will work with you on new techniques.
Sept 25 Photo-LOLA Workshop (Autumn)

Join us and capture the beautiful Northwoods change of seasons. Autumn offers unique and fleeting opportunities to capture its colors and shapes. We'll look at techniques for getting the best possible exposure, composition, and colors. This is a hands-on event for everyone; all levels of cameras, ability, and experience are welcome!

Sept 28 What Makes A Successful Musical?

Join instructor Bernie Hupperts, who is making a return engagement, for a five-week musical theatre discussion series on how the theme of a musical is exemplified through its music, dialogue, and dance.

Oct 7 "Painting with Wool" Zoom Class
registration deadline - Sept 23
In this class, you will learn to stretch a felt backing onto an embroidery hoop and transform the beautiful array of hand-dyed roving into your own unique design. This class will explore shape creation, color blending, and three-dimensionality. The attached photo is an example of what your creation might look like. You will be able to do your own color combination, given what is sent in the kit.

Oct 16 The Art of Magic Tricks

In this two-hour class, artist Aron Houdini, distant nephew of the great Harry Houdini, will show you how to use magic tricks to improve your cognitive skills, perception, and hand-eye coordination, providing insights into the strengths and weaknesses of our own minds.

Oct 26-27 Basic Beginner Watercolor Workshop
registration deadline - Oct 19
Join instructor Lisa Krueger as she shares what she knows about this mysterious medium. The two days will be filled with information but also plenty of painting time. Paper, pigment, brushes, controlling the water, retaining the white of the paper, how to get whites back once they are lost, glazing, allowing the paint to mix on the paper, applying salt, bruising the paper, spattering, how to avoid muddy color, design elements and more will be covered. 

Ongoing Drop-In Experiences
Fiber Fridays from 10 -12 are returning beginning in October! This is a chance for fiber artists to bring in their projects, sit together, work and share ideas. Dig up an old project or bring a new one!
Every Wednesday, LOLA Arts hosts "Watercolor Wednesday" from 10 - 2 p.m. This is a chance for watercolor artists to work on their individual projects and share ideas. Just show up with your paint and paper!
