Where We Are and Where We're Going

Plus the Return of SkyBridge Events on Stevenson

Welcome to our second update. If you missed our introductory email outlining the two-year, Building Back Better Together plan, and the start of the Community Based Safety Program click the links for more information.

Our vision is a safe and clean business setting that fosters a sense of community, inclusion, and contribution, by and for everyone.

The Community-Based Safety Program calls for a holistic approach to a significant area of the Tenderloin and Mid-Market, stewarded by Urban Alchemy practitioners, from approximately 7am to 7pm. It is seed-funded with a two-year public investment and seeks to raise at least $3M from the private sector over that time.

Our collective goal is not to return to normal, but to create the Next Normal.

Urban Alchemy

We are grateful to our incredible partners, Urban Alchemy, who are deploying into areas of extreme crisis with compassion and respect to make the streets safer for everyone. Check out this SF Examiner profile of Urban Alchemy and this inspiring video featuring Urban Alchemy Practitioner, Greg Brinkley.

This map represents our primary focus area for this phase of the program. It highlights where Urban Alchemy

is currently deployed. We will expand into the shaded areas in the coming months.

The challenges we face scaling the program are:

1. Ensuring the training/safety of practitioners

2. Receiving adequate city agency support

3. Additional funding to sustain and grow the current capacity and coverage area

The MMBA and Foundation recognize that for many residents and businesses, every

day can feel like one day too many. We ask for your patience as we work to meet the challenges created over several years, if not decades. We will communicate and work with you every step of the way.

BUILDING BACK BETTER TOGETHER THROUGH THE ARTS

From independent stages, nightlife venues, open studios, galleries, and historic theaters, Mid-Market and the Tenderloin have long been places for creativity and culture.
