Volunteers Make Magnolia Beautiful
What a summer 2021 is turning out to be. Record breaking heat and plenty of sunshine have been attracting lots of neighbors and visitors to shop, dine, and relax while enjoying our people-friendly and comfortable tables, benches, and beautiful flowering baskets. It has been immensely gratifying to see how the streetscape improvements have added so much value to the weekly Farmer’s Market experience as well as continuing to draw people into the Magnolia Village to stay awhile and enjoy the community.

Thank you for your investment and commitment to this place we call home. Though we are taking a bit of a break this summer – at least in active fundraising to complete Phases IV and V – contributions are always welcomed to assist in the myriad of maintenance activities. Your ongoing support is deeply appreciated.
Supply Chain Challenges Delay Phases II & III Installations
We anticipated that the installation of the new tables, chairs, umbrellas, and benches along West McGraw Street between 33rd and 35th Avenues West were to occur this August. However, our supplier has had delays in delivering orders due to ongoing impacts from the global pandemic and to our economy. Expect to see the new installations in mid-September and October, just in time for our beautiful fall weather and autumnal activities. Stay tuned for further updates on timing for completing Phases II and III.
It Takes a Village to Maintain our Village – we love our volunteers
Not much is sweeter in life than rolling up your sleeves and giving back to the place you call home. The Reimagine Village project has inspired so many of our neighbors to put service to action. These wonderful volunteers are deeply appreciated. Every volunteer is a key team member in maintaining the beautiful and inviting streetscape improvements. We’d like to extend a shoutout of appreciation to the following friends and neighbors who are making a difference:

Mike Olden. Mike grew up in Magnolia. He now lives in Mill Creek, yet comes down every Saturday to wash off tables, chairs, and benches. He also helps with any cleanup activity we organize. If you are in the Village on a Saturday morning, please say a big thank you to Mike for giving back, paying it forward, and showing his commitment to his hometown neighborhood. We appreciate you, Mike!

Dwelling Place Church, Pastor Wes Wall. Pastor Wes lives in Magnolia and organizes his own congregation alongside local and visiting youth to work on various neighborhood projects in Magnolia, usually focused on helping with Summerfest in early August. This year, the intrepid volunteers spruced up all the new flower poles to bring back their shine and luster.

Bill & Paula Whitham. Bill and Paula are Magnolia residents who love their community. You can always count on the Witham’s to roll up their sleeves and sweep, cleanup leaves, wash umbrellas or whatever is needed to keep our streetscape improvements looking spiffy and ready for use.

John Maynard. John is a well-known voice for those of us who listened to the radio in the Seattle area and is a valued volunteer in his service to Magnolia Village. He often works in tandem with Mike Olden in sweeping up leaves and keeping the tables and chairs ready for use while also tackling clean-up activities needed because of increases in homelessness.

Mark Powers. Mark is one of those cherished volunteers who takes the initiative and does whatever is needed, whenever it is needed. He loves to keep his neighborhood looking good by doing general cleanup activities in the Village like weeding, leaf blowing, and whatever is asked to keep our sidewalks safe and cleared of debris.

Bob Culley. Bob spends time in both Magnolia and on Vashon Island. When in Magnolia, he regularly volunteers to sweep and keep the streets looking great. He is a true utility player for Magnolia beautification whether it is unpacking and prepping tables and chairs for daily use or lending and driving his truck for hauling services.

A big shout out to Modele’s, Vixen, Magnolia’s Bookstore, Serendipity, Pink Salt, El Ranchon and all the Village businesses that make a BIG difference by blowing leaves off the sidewalks and cleaning up tables located in front of their storefront. The community appreciates you; remember to love local by spending local!

The Magnolia Beautification Committee members – Chair Cheryl McQuiston, Will Bailey, Courean Napolitano, Don Gillmore, Joan Enticknap, Ann Goos, Pat Craft, Jim Napolitano, Chuck Flaherty and his Magnolia Garden Center crew, and Jason Thibeaux, Magnolia Chamber Executive Director are always available to identify cleanup needs, organize volunteers, hang seasonal banners and wreaths along with ordering, delivering, and installing flower baskets while doing a myriad of needed maintenance activities to keep our Village looking beautiful and feeling engaging.

There is so much opportunity for more volunteers to make a difference and join in this fun and rewarding community effort. Volunteering is not only a great way to meet new people, but also one of the most meaningful, tangible ways to support your community.
