UPDATES ON CURRENT CAMPAIGNS
SSF MEASURE TAKES ON EGREGIOUS LIES BY OPPOSITION
South San Francisco children’s advocates are conducting a groundbreaking campaign which would make their city the only place in the country that would truly provide universal, free care for children ages 2.5 – 5, and a living wage for providers that would start at $70,000 a year!! However, we at Funding the Next Generation have never seen such virulent and deceitful opposition to a children's measure. In this case, the opposition is from the South San Francisco biotech companies (headquartered in the city) who will pay the parcel tax. Witness Genentech, a company with a revenue last year of $26B – bankrolling a campaign to oppose childcare workers getting a living wage. This is truly a David and Goliath situation – voters’ mailboxes and e-mails are being flooded with what only can be called lies - claiming the childcare will pose a grave risk to children.

But the campaign for the measure is truly magnificent.
Click here for South San Francisco Website where you can learn what is going on and how they debunk the lies. Also check out the Facebook page.
MONTEREY COUNTY'S EARLY CARE MEASURE NOW HAS ENDORSEMENTS FROM 320 ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDULAS.
Check out the endorsement page of the campaign website to see one of the most diverse campaigns ever - every local elected official, SEIU, United Way, Monterey Aquarium, the community foundation, state and federal electeds, local grassroots organizations, health care leaders, COPA, Chamber of Commerce, Building Healthy Communities, Mujeres en Accion. This is truly a model of coalition-building.

LISTEN TO THE YOUTH OF SACRAMENTO - THEY TELL IT LIKE IT IS.
The opening of the Sac Kids First measure website is a moving commentary by young people. They know what they are fighting for. The persistence to try a third time for a youth fund ballot measure came from a group of youth activists for whom giving up was not an option; an elected official (City Councilman Jay Schenirer) who did not want to leave office without his dream of a youth fund actually happening; and a Mayor who after leading the opposition of the previous youth fund campaign with promises of a better solution felt compelled to deliver. Add to that - a special endorsement from the Sacramento Firefighters Local 522 (previous opponents) - who will have a piece of the action in training young people.
Click here for Sac Kids First Website. Note the Facebook page is a lot of fun - every endorser has a say.
