Brief Description: IDMC's Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID) is the world's most trusted source of data and analysis on the risk, scale and impacts of internal displacement. Our report provides an overview of the most significant displacement situations worldwide and offers insights into challenges and opportunities for addressing and preventing displacement. In the report, we also highlight areas where data and evidence need strengthening.

Brief Description: The English Language Institute's (ELI) Conversation Circles program is going virtual this summer in order to create connections among international students and scholars at U-M, beat the isolation, and boost morale during this difficult time. Each circle consists of up to four participants and is led by a volunteer facilitator. Participants meet via an online platform to talk about any topic of interest, play games, and share pictures and videos. This is an opportunity to support our community and be part of the U-M family while apart. You can provide a valuable space for U-M international students and scholars to stay connected during this time of loneliness and uncertainty.

Brief Description: The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) announces the second annual Access to Exchange Externship. This is an opportunity for a young person interested in:
  • a remote internship with Mobility International USA including a stipend,
  • learning more about a career in international education,
  • and increasing the participation of people with disabilities in study or volunteer abroad.
Strongly prefer applications from people with disabilities who themselves have studied or volunteered abroad in some capacity. This year we are offering five externships for U.S. individuals, and another five externships for international non-U.S. individuals.

Brief Description: If your graduate or postdoctoral research touches on any aspects of global health, public health, histories of medicine, the role of pandemics and vaccines, or any related health topics in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America or the Caribbean, then please consider participating in an exciting program this summer by U-M and the University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras (UPR). You will work alongside wonderful colleagues from Puerto Rico and Michigan to create innovative lesson plans for middle and high school students. You would receive $750 in compensation for your time and expertise. This program will be 100% virtual.

Brief Description: Anti-racism grants are available to support student organization activities and projects by student groups for anti-racism work, with a specific focus on confronting anti-Blackness, racism against Indigenous peoples, and confronting white supremacy. The goal is to inclusively support the work of student groups seeking to confront racism to the greatest degree possible. Such funding could be for projects, events, services, programming, or partnerships with external organizations.

This volume contains two special sections on sanctuary and religion and refugees.
The International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit has created a report on the Warrendale community in Detroit and their grassroots project focused on equitable integration, education, and awareness. It has some great information on Warrendale and community/grassroots programming with immigrants.
The Islamophobia Working Group has created the yearly Ramadan Factsheet to discuss Ramadan, a month of fasting and worship observed by Muslims around the world. Ramadan begins and ends with the sighting of the new moon. In 2021, the month is projected to fall between April 13 and May 13, give or take a day. To read more please click the link.

"Days of heavy bombardment on the Gaza Strip intensified on Wednesday, with Israeli fighter jets bombing sites belonging to Palestinian armed groups, as well as police buildings and apartment blocks.

Since the offensive began late on Monday, Gaza’s health ministry says at least 48 people have been killed, including 14 children. More than 300 others have been wounded.

The Israeli army said about 1,500 rockets have been fired from Gaza towards various locations in Israel, killing at least six Israelis.

The escalation is the most intense since the seven-week 2014 Israeli war on Gaza. Here’s what led to the most recent flare-up in violence...."
