Masculinity: Toxic or True?
A recent conversation in the Glade house on Sunday afternoon.

Child: “Dad, the church is hosting a class called, “Toxic Masculinity or True Masculinity.”

Dad: “Yes, I know.”

Child: “I really think you should go.”

Dad: “I can’t go. I’m leading the class.”

Child (with staged incredulity): “What!?”
This actual conversation is part of a larger, good natured, banter in my home. If I’m overbearing on some minor issue (and this happens occasionally) one of my older children may interject, “Dad, the masculinity is getting a little toxic.”
Joking aside, a proper vision of masculinity is so important. The adjective "toxic" in front of the noun "masculinity" may suggest that any and all expressions of masculinity are toxic. This is not the case. The Bible has good news for men: A vision of manhood that is strong, sacrificial, proactive, and humble.
Beginning October 17 and continuing for six weeks, we will explore the biblical vision of manhood. This will be a breakfast meeting at 7:30 at the church. I’ll have a few guest speakers, good food, and good discussion on an important subject. Gentlemen, I really hope you will join me.
Warmly,
David
