Needs to Be Addressed: The U.S. Census reports that San Bernardino County is made-up of 473,703 family households, of which 68% are married couples and 32% are single parent households. The vast majority of single parent households are led by single-parent mothers (68% compared to 32% led by single-parent fathers). Many of these families were raising children under the age of 6 and significant percentages of families (14.5%) were living in poverty. Compounding these needs is the fact that 1 in 5 San Bernardino county residents have less than a high school diploma. These social and economic issues lead to significant challenges for low-income fathers to be engaged with and support their children. Research has shown that a critical role of fathers is to provide important financial and emotional support to their children; yet, low-income non-custodial fathers with low wages and low educational attainment, face many barriers from public and political systems.
Proposed Services: Through a Comprehensive Fatherhood Program, PSD aims to increase child and family well-being through a series of evidenced-based practices that address healthy relationships, improve parenting skills, and increase economic stability. Services will be provided through targeted recruitment practices of Head Start fathers; risk and needs assessments; goal-setting with measurable activities and milestones; intensive case management services with at least eight individual contacts per year; supportive services through referrals to community partners; availability of a Successful Pathways Apprenticeship Program and certified high school education program; and participation in The Nurturing Fathers Program curriculum workshop over a period of 13 weeks for a total of 32.5 hours of education. These curriculum workshops will be provided through learning cohorts of between 8 and 15 fathers, which create peer mentoring and coaching opportunities for the fathers.

On November 18, 2021 the County of San Bernardino, Preschool Services Department held a FLAME-FOCUSING THE FATHERHOOD FLAME Event, which was held at the Ontario Convention Center. Guests included Supervisor Joe Baca Jr., who opened our program and included Juan Solis from Inland Empire Father Involvement Coalition and Andrew Caffey from The Mom and Dad Project. The event was facilitated by Nichole Roach, PSD Program Manager in assistance of Renee Linares and Bobbi Samano, PSD Program Specialists. It was a full day of dynamic sessions concentrated on sparking connections that will allow us to gain momentum in advancing fatherhood services and focused on igniting ideas and actionable change around fatherhood.

It's not just about Christmas! Santa Claus, Inc. and YES! - its Youth Enrichment Services Year-Round Program provided new toys, quality new clothing, shoes and socks, new books, coats, quilts, school supplies, and personal care kits for over 150,000 underprivileged children in 2019!
Parents are invited to select their children's Christmas gifts during our Christmas Distribution while "shopping for free" with one of our volunteer personal shoppers at the Santa Claus, Inc. 'Workshop.' The goal of Santa Claus, Inc. at Christmas is to make each parent feel as if they are really 'Christmas shopping' rather than receiving a direct offering from a charity. Throughout the rest of the year the Youth Enrichment Services (Yes!) works with other nonprofits, shelters, the County of San Bernardino HOPE (Homeless) program and many other community partners to provide essential needs for underserved children including shoes, clothing, toys, personal care items, shoes, backpacks, diapers, birthday bags, and numerous other items.
Locally hundreds of volunteers work together, lovingly preserving the dignity of parents, grandparents, or guardians to assist over 150,000 children under their care. Since it's beginning in 1952, Santa Claus Incorporated has served over 1,500,000 children.
