Thanksgiving Wishes from the AOASM President
|
|
My son asked me, “What is Tanksgiving?” I smiled and feelings of warmth, love, peace, and gratefulness came over me. I told him that Thanksgiving is a celebration of family, friendship, food, and shelter. It is a time where there are no presents involved, just time to enjoy the spirit of being together and to show lots of love. It is a day when we bring traditions to the table and also get to watch football!
The last two years have been so crazy and unpredictable. Many of us have experienced stress, tension, loss, and uncertainty about safety. This year, AOASM has really tried to emphasize our philosophy as true osteopathic sports medicine physicians. We honor our philosophy of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. We have tried to provide hope, inspiration, and health and safety tips, as we reintroduce the importance of the human connection.
As we get ready for Turkey Day, AOASM and I wish each member time for reflection, relaxation, reconnection and hope you can recognize the simple joys of life: love, laughter, and peace.
Happy Thanksgiving from the AOASM family to you and your family.
Becca Rodriguez Regner, DO, FAOASM

2022 AAO & AOASM Joint Convocation
Trauma: An Osteopathic Perspective of Body, Mind, and Spirit
|
|
SAVE THE DATE:
March 23-27, 2022 at Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida
Shawn R. Kerger, DO, FAOASM, Program Chair for AAO
Priscilla Tu, DO, FAOASM, Program Chair for AOASM
A person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit – this is a core tenet of osteopathic philosophy. This year’s conference will review the latest updates of each of these aspects and their impacts on our patients with a history of trauma. For the first time, the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) and the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM) are teaming up to explore these relationships, particularly in the athletic population. The conference will kick off with a day of sports medicine topics; the following day will be the “Body” day, examining the physical and musculoskeletal responses to trauma. Then, the “Mind” day will focus on the neuropsychological and neuroanatomic response to trauma with a special emphasis on pain perception. The “Spirit” day will discuss the psychological aspects of trauma. The final day will incorporate all these considerations into an improved practice approach for us all.
More registration and hotel information to come!
