Friend,

As the NAPW staff uses this time to rest and recharge for the hard work ahead, we're counting on our supporters to help ensure that we can continue to advocate for the rights and dignity of pregnant womenand anyone capable of becoming pregnant–in 2022 and beyond.

Next year marks 49 years since Roe v. Wade was decided. Roe not only recognized a fundamental right to abortion, but also the Constitutional personhood of womenincluding when they are pregnant and postpartum. Next year, however, may very well be the year that Roe is overturned.

Regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision, we’ll be on the ground working with local allies and grassroots activists to defend people from criminalization and other punitive state action on the basis of pregnancy or any pregnancy outcome, just as we have done for 20 years.

As the only organization focused on ensuring that people do not lose their civil and human rights because of pregnancy, we are in this fight for the years ahead, building support and coalition, challenging rights violations, shining a light on injustices, and raising hell.

If you haven't made an end-of-year contribution yet, please consider making a donation today to support our work now and to help us plan for the future ahead. All gifts before midnight will be tax deductible for 2021!

Gratefully,

The NAPW Team

A Note About Our Language: Historically, the State has targeted people identified as women for discrimination and state control based on pregnancy and their capacity for pregnancy. The overwhelming majority of people NAPW has represented and advocated for have been identified in public records as women. NAPW recognizes, however, that not all people with the capacity for pregnancy identify as women and that the gender binary itself contributes to systems of discrimination and control. NAPW’s work is intended to contribute to an all-encompassing fight for civil and human rights. We use the terms “women,” “pregnant people” and “people with the capacity for pregnancy” in recognition of the fact that all people are entitled to dignity, equality, and fairness regardless of gender identity, capacity for pregnancy, pregnancy, or stage of pregnancy including labor and delivery.
