AGC Looks to the Future in Safety Partnership with MNOSHA

AGC was pleased to host Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry Commissioner Roslyn Robertson, Deputy Commissioner Nicole Blissenbach, and MNOSHA Compliance Training, Outreach and Partnership Director Nancy Zentgraf this past week to discuss AGC and MNOSHA’s long-standing partnership as the AGC reins change from Doug Swenson’s tenure to Matthew Semerad. The Construction Health And Safety Excellence (CHASE) partnership has developed from 6 initial contractor participants in 2003 to nearly 50 contractors today, boasting a collective incident rate 54% safer than the overall Minnesota construction industry average. We look forward to many more years of successful and safe partnership!
AGC Members:
Nominate Your Company for a Safety Award!

The Jeff Jensen Memorial Construction Safety Excellence Award was established by AGC of Minnesota in 2003 following the untimely and early death of Jeff Jensen, the third-generation owner of J.R. Jensen & Son, Inc. This annual award for superior efforts and results in jobsite safety honors Jeff's unfailing commitment to safety in the workplace.

Nominations are open to AGC members for awards to be given for 2020 work hours and safety records. Awards will be presented in 3 categories: Category I (0 – 149,999 hours), Category II (150,000 – 299,999 hours), and Category III (300,000+ hours).

AGC of America / Autodesk Workforce Survey

As the pandemic continues to ebb and the economy bounces back, AGC of America is seeking to understand the current state of the construction labor market, and also gauge how supply chain problems and materials price spikes are impacting the industry. Your input will better equip AGC to advocate for measures to help the industry’s labor needs in both the short- and long-term.

Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey. Thank you!
Beware of Recent Email Scam Involving Contractors and Counties

Scammers are contacting individual Minnesota counties claiming to be XYZ Contractor and asking for their form to update ACH (electronic) payment information as they are “changing banks.” The scammers are easily determining legitimate connections between the county and contractor from publicly available information.

Good Practice – Authentication: upon receipt of the updated ACH form, most counties are calling the contractor using names and phone numbers they already have on file to validate that the ACH change form came from the contractor. Some even call the new bank to validate the bank-customer relationship.

Poor Practice – No Authentication: upon receipt of the updated ACH form, a county that receives and immediately processes the completed form, then eventually makes a payment to the new, fraudulent bank account, all without authenticating the change with the contractor.
EDUCATION & EVENTS
See You in Duluth Next Week!

Join the AGC Board of Directors and staff next Thursday, July 22 at Pier B Resort in Duluth for our first post-pandemic member event!

Like the United States, Minnesota’s economy is recovering robustly from the pandemic, but progress in construction has been far more uneven. Meanwhile, a host of congressional and regulatory initiatives forecast very mixed impacts on contractors and their workforce.
Ken Simonson, AGC of America's Chief Economist, will cover the current national and state outlook for construction project types, materials costs and availability, and labor.

AGC will also provide an update regarding recent legislative developments and other association business, and there will be plenty of time for open discussion with members.

Join AGC and MBEX for a Saints Game

All AGC members are invited to join AGC Leadership Blueprint Alumni and the Minnesota Builders Exchange (MBEX) Young Professionals for a St. Paul Saints game on Wednesday, August 4 when the Saints take on the Louisville Bats at CHS Field in St. Paul.
