Updates to Isolation and Quarantine Recommendations
Basically, if you have tested positive for COVID-19, you must isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. You may return to school after 5 days if you are asymptomatic.
The following is from Franklin County Public Health and the Ohio Department of Health.
Isolation: Individuals who test positive for COVID-19
Anyone who tested positive may discontinue isolation after 5 full days (day “0” is the day they first exhibited symptoms or tested positive) if they are either asymptomatic or their symptoms have resolved. They should continue to wear a mask when around others until at least day 10. If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.
If your student has tested positive for COVID-19, they must isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms, regardless of vaccination status. They may return to school after 5 days IF they are asymptomatic. It is recommended that a COVID-19 test be performed 5 days after the onset of symptoms.
Quarantine: Individuals who have had close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19
If you:
- Have been boosted OR
- Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months OR
- Received the J&J vaccine within the last 2 months
You should:
- Wear a mask around others for 10 days
- Test on day 5, if possible
- If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home
If your student is vaccinated: No quarantine is required if you provide proof that your student is fully vaccinated. They should still wear a mask indoors as much as possible for 10 days (required at school) and it is recommended that a COVID-19 test be performed 5 days after exposure.
If you:
- Are not boosted and completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine OVER 6 months ago OR
- Are not boosted and received the J&J vaccine OVER 2 months ago OR
- Are not vaccinated
You should:
- Stay home for 5 days. After that continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
- Test on day 5, if possible.
- If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home.
If your student is NOT vaccinated: Quarantine is required for 5 days as long as the student is asymptomatic at the end of those 5 days. They should wear a mask indoors as much as possible for 10 days (required at school) and it is recommended that a COVID-19 test be performed 5 days after exposure.
Home Tests Limited Availability
We have limited availability of COVID tests in our school office. For the foreseeable future, we will only be distributing tests for symptomatic students and/ or students with a known COVID exposure due to close contact. Call or email the office if you need a test sent home or for you to pick up.
St. Catharine School COVID Stats
We are required to post positive cases of students and staff on our website weekly. Currently, we have 4 active cases and
16 cumulative cases with students and staff for the current school year.
Diocesan Update on Masks
The Diocese is constantly monitoring the situation regarding masks. If their decision on masking in school changes for Franklin County, our School Task Force will meet to see how to implement the recommendations. No decisions on masks or any other protocols will be considered until that point. Thank you for your patience and willingness to keep our students safe.
