SJFD 2021 PATRIOT DAY 20TH YEAR COMMEMORATION

A procession of sworn personnel will begin at 9:45 a.m. at South Market Street and West San Fernando Street and end at Fire Station 1 located at 255 N. Market Street.

First responders will come together on Patriot Day to form a procession from South Market Street and West San Fernando Street to Fire Station 1. After the procession, there will be a brief outdoor commemoration ceremony followed by a reception hosted at and by the San José Fire Museum located at 201 N. Market Street.

Street parking will be available for the media across from Fire Station 1 on N. Market Street.

*Please note that all attendees are required to adhere to current Public Health orders.

VIVA CALLE 5K RUN!
Each year's VIVA CALLE RUN event opens upwards of six miles of streets, through some of San Jose's most iconic neighborhoods for people to come out and play for the day! 
Event Weekend Schedule:  
Saturday, September 18th: Packet Pick-up Sports Basement in Campbell from 1:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M.
 
Sunday, September 19th: Event Day  
The start of the 5K will begin at 8:00 A.M. sharp 
The start of the kids run will begin at 9:30 A.M.
Registration fees:  
5K (3.1 miles) - $35 August 3 - August 15  
Registration includes a Run Viva Calle tech shirt & finisher’s medal

COVID-19 UPDATE TOWNHALL
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2021 AT 6 P.M. PDT – 7:00 P.M. PDT
Please join Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle, Santa Clara County Supervisor Otto Lee, and Assemblymember Alex Lee for a townhall about COVID-19 and recent developments.

County Public Health Officers from both Alameda County and Santa Clara County will provide up-to-date information and answer any questions you might have about the variant, the updated COVID safety guidelines, the vaccine booster shot, what FDA approval means for our district, and more. Hope to see you there!

SOUTH BAY HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECT FOR COASTAL CLEANUP DAY 2021 

The South Bay Yacht Club of north San Jose / Alviso California needs your help with habitat restoration on the Alviso Slough. 


Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday September 18, 2021 9:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M.

South Bay Yacht Club, 1491 Hope Street, San Jose (Alviso) 

 
Haul out old abandoned docks, stack everything into dumpsters.  
Followed by BBQ lunch for all volunteers. 

 
 
All volunteers with strong backs and a willingness to help with habitat restoration. Sorry, no youth under 12 years old in the demolition zone. 
BUT -- under 12 are welcome to hang out.  12-18 OK in demolition area if supervised by a parent or legal guardian. 
All adults must sign waivers, youth must have waiver signed by parent or legal guardian. 

Parking: Free and plentiful on Hope Street and Catherine Street. 
Why: The wildlife of Alviso need clean new homes. Removing of decades-old semi-abandoned docks will be the next step in ongoing South Bay habitat restoration. 
SENIOR PROGRAMMING & FITNESS CENTER REOPENING POSTPONED  
PRNS is postponing in-person active adult (50+) programs and fitness center reopening. Residents can expect an update on the status of active adult programs and fitness centers after the conditions have been reassessed in October. 
The Senior Nutrition Program continues curbside meal services at participating community center locations. For more information about Active Adult programming and curbside senior meal services, click here.

NEW FUNDING ALERT: CA SMALL BUSINESS COVID-19 RELIEF GRANT PROGRAM 
There are two NEW application windows for nonprofits with $1.5 billion in new state funding available. The last day to apply is September 30. CalNonprofits is hosting FREE webinars and have experts available to help you apply quickly and easily. MORE FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR SMALL BUSINESS GRANTS IN CALIFORNIA
The popular California Small Business Relief Grants program has received an additional $1.5 billion, to help thousands of business owners on the waiting list for grants. 
  
In the previous rounds of funding, 5,200 businesses in San José
 received grants. If a business owner applied in previous rounds and wants to check to see if the grant was approved, here is the list of awards.  
  
Three new competitive funding rounds will be conducted by Lendistry. Grants up to $25,000 for small businesses impacted by the pandemic will be available.

SUNDAY HIKES WITH ALUM ROCK PARK RANGERS
The Alum Rock Park Rangers are hosting a FREE 60-minute guided hike along Penitencia Creek Trail. This low difficulty hike is approximately 1.5 miles and is perfect for all ages and skill levels. Park rangers will educate hikers on the natural and cultural history of the park, wildlife, and seasonal flora and fauna along the deep box canyon.
