Message from the Town of Kensington
The Town of Kensington Business Park located behind Pine Acres RV and Trailside Plaza on Route 2 is currently under construction. There will be two entrances, one beside Trailside Plaza and the other across from Sunset Drive. Most of the underground infrastructure for water, sewer and storm drainage is already in place. While the Business Park will not be totally complete this fall, you should see a lot of changes over the next few weeks. Cement curbing has been started and paving should be starting soon. Most of the roads will be paved with at least one layer of pavement. We will soon start taking applications for the sale of lots. We look forward to the completion as we feel it will be great for the economic development of the Kensington Area.

New funding to help with cost of tablets to verify PEI Vax Pass
A new fund is available to help Island organizations, required to implement the PEI Vax Pass, purchase tablets to scan PEI Vax Pass QR codes used to verify people’s proof of vaccination. The COVID-19 – Vax Pass Implementation Fund supports businesses, not-for-profits, and non-governmental organizations that may need to purchase a new tablet to implement a vaccine passport system in their business or operation. The fund provides up to 75 per cent of the eligible cost of purchasing a tablet to a maximum of $525 per tablet. If multiple tablets are required, the fund covers up to $2,100, for a maximum of four tablets.

Government announces targeted COVID-19 support measures
Last week, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland announced that the government is moving from the very broad-based support that was appropriate at the height of lockdowns to more targeted measures that will provide help where it is needed, while prudently managing government spending. The proposed changes to business support programs include:
- Extending the Canada Recovery Hiring Program until May 7, 2022, for eligible employers with current revenue losses above 10 per cent and increase the subsidy rate to 50 per cent.

Delivering targeted support to businesses that are still facing significant pandemic-related challenges. Support would be available through two streams: Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program, which would provide support through the wage and rent subsidy programs, to hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, and restaurants, with a subsidy rate of up to 75 per cent. Hardest-Hit Business Recovery Program, which would provide support through the wage and rent subsidy programs, would support other businesses that have faced deep losses, with a subsidy rate of up to 50 per cent.

Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP)
As a Canadian employer who continues to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be eligible to apply for one of the two subsidies to cover part of your employee wages.
The CRHP and the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) support wages you pay through different phases of your economic recovery. Each claim period, eligible employers can claim either CRHP or CEWS, whichever is higher.
Next deadline:
- December 30, 2021: Last day to apply for claim period 17
Next period opens
- November 1, 2021: First day you can apply for claim period 21
