Greater Cleveland Food Bank

Volunteers are needed to help sort and repack nonperishable food that is later distributed to local food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters.
Stephanie Tubbs Jones Health Center Mobile Food Pantry

Service participants will help sort, repack, and distribute food items to community members experiencing food insecurity. This activity will take place at the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Health Center, a branch of the Cleveland Clinic.
Community Arts Center Clean-Up

Volunteers will help with yard-work, cleaning, and special projects which might include setting up for events, moving items out of the building as we make room for arts organizations, helping with the food center in our building, or more specialized projects based on volunteer’s interests and the Center’s needs.
Jesuit Day of Service (JDOS) is the biggest community event at John Carroll each year. This spring it will be in-person and you will be working with one of our local Cleveland community partners. 

Jesuit Day of Service will take place on Saturday, April 30th, 2022.

Schedule for the Day:
  • 9:00 am Check-in and Kick-Off Event at Kulas Audiorium
  • 9:30 am Board busses and depart for your community partner site
  • 10:00 am - 12:30 pm Work at community partner site
  • 12:30 pm - 12:45 pm Clean up and board busses
  • 1:15 pm Cookout Lunch back on campus

"St. Thomas Aquinas educates ages K-8, and I have gotten the chance to work with kindergarteners and first graders which allowed me to meet students of different education levels. This is my first time actually working with students in a school setting. It was difficult at first, I needed to approach this experience with patience and understanding. The biggest lesson I have learned is to understand that all students are at different levels in their education. It is important to adapt to a specific need for each student in order to make progress every day, in whatever part of learning they are at..."
The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion will honor Black History Month with several on-campus events, including book reads, virtual performances, and a traveling museum of African-American artifacts, paintings, and articles.

On Friday, February 24, 2022 at 4:30 pm, The Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion and Ursuline College will host the 2nd Annual African American Read-In. Join us via Zoom to listen and share powerful pieces of spoken word poetry, excerpts from books, monologues from movies, and much more to honor past and current Black writers and artists. Watch the documentary "Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos In America."

This is a documentary about the immigration journey of so many people from Latin America and the truth about why the U.S has become the number 1 place, Latin American people want to move to. The Immigration Advocacy Group is a student-run organization that has been created with the purpose of raising awareness about immigration and issues at the US/MX border. Their main goal is to help people understand the realities of immigrant lives and the difficulties they face daily. They also do hands-on work with immigrant families to build community in University Heights. 

Carroll Reads is a tutoring program aimed at helping children in
Elementary grades refine reading and skills.
"It was great to see the kids be excited to learn and I also noticed that they had improved since the last time I was there, which was a really cool thing to see: I noticed that one of my kids had improved in a subject that he was specifically struggling in and that made me feel proud."
