FROM THE ASSOCIATE RECTOR | |
"Your life is God’s gift to you, what you do with it is your gift to God.” —Anonymous
This famous quote, though anonymous, is at the top of my Rule of Life. What is a Rule of Life? It is a personal commitment to live in a way that not only pleases God but also supports healthy spiritual values for the individual. It is a living document meant to be crafted in discernment with prayer and thanksgiving. It comes from the heart as you consider the way God made you. A Rule of Life is not a “resolution” with step-by-step instructions to an ultimate goal. It is a way to live a thriving, sustainable life with the help of the Lord in prayer, in community, in the Word, and in service to others. It helps you establish a pattern of intentional living which is seamless, yet enriching and empowering. It helps you establish, strengthen, or deepen your relationship with God. You can say bye-bye to feeling rushed, scattered, reactive, and exhausted. A Rule of Life opens up a pathway to peace, structure, rest, and opportunities to respond well to whatever life might throw at you. It equips you with a mirror in which to view your true self and progress towards a robust, spiritual daily life.
I invite you to write your own intentional, conscious plan to keep God at the center of everything you do and say. This is not only an act of love for God, it is also an action in which you can open up yourself to receive the fullness of God’s love that God has just for you. Try it today—you’ll be glad you did! If you need assistance with crafting your own Rule of Life, please email kdunn@saintpauls.org.
