Remember and Celebrate Emancipation on Juneteenth

Some community members have reached out to the D10 office about coyotes in Como Park. These animals are beautiful to see from a distance, but up close encounters can surprise and shock us.

St. Paul Animal Control (SPAC) receives many reports of wildlife sightings in the city, but only responds to certain types of reports, for example:

  • Bites involving wild animals (seek treatment immediately)
  • Injured wildlife, or wildlife that may be sick
  • Wild animals inside a living space
  • Unusually aggressive wild animals that are threatening people.

You can reach out to SPAC at 651-266-1100 or email dsicomplaints@ci.stpaul.mn.us. You can also help U of M researches track the coyotes in their Twin Cities Coyote and Fox Project

Last May, St. Paul Parks and Recreation Natural Resources Supervisor Adam Robbins spoke to the D10 Land Use Committee about how and when the city decides whether to interfere with nature, the federal and local laws it must follow, and what residents should and should not do if coming face to face with wild creatures. You can View the Recording here on the D10 Website.

The Churchill Gardens reside on Churchill and Horton are infiltration gardens designed to filter water before going into Como Lake. Our dedicated long-term garden steward, Sandra Peterson, is moving away and neighbors Bonnie Youngquist and Joan Hyman have stepped up to the plate and have been doing an amazing job preparing for this event.

Join us for fun opportunities to meet your neighbors and get some exercise gardening.

Our ability to purchase plants is based on annual volunteer hours for a Maintenance Grant from the Capitol Region Watershed District.. These plants serve as a filter to help keep the lake clean.

We have a couple Ramsey County Master Gardeners joining us, lead Master Gardener Angela Hawkins and intern Amelia Boulware. Bring water and your favorite gardening tool if you're able, we'll have some supplies on hand, and donuts! See you there!

Save The Date: D10 Ice Cream Social

Friday, July 8 - 5:30-8pm @ Como Streetcar Station

St. Paul DSI Proposing Changes for Class N Licensing Process

The Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) is proposing changes to Class N Licensing in St. Paul. Class N Licenses are most commonly associated with Liquor sales and Auto Repair, but cover a variety of other businesses as well.

The changes are intended to simplify and streamline the process for new businesses while still giving time for community notification and engagement. This includes shortening the process time after applications are submitted, but requiring notification to District Councils prior to submitting the application. Certain license types are also being removed from the notification process. You can read more about the proposed changes and Business Licensing in the links below.

D10 Como Park is planning to host DSI Deputy Director Dan Niziolek at our July 6 Land Use Committee meeting to give an overview and answer questions. If you're not able to attend you're welcome to send feedback to district10@district10comopark.org.
