Our vision is to have a community where no kittens are born wild on the street, no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and no feral cats are wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern.

SAFCC reunites lost cat with owner
Last month, SAFCC was able to reunite a lost cat with its owners thanks to a microchip. This pretty sweet kitty appeared a few weeks ago in SAFCC volunteer Anita's neighborhood and joined a small colony. She was very thin when she first showed up so it was obvious she had been outdoors for a while. When the cat was taken in to get spayed, the vet noticed a possible spay scar and discovered she was chipped! SAFCC got in touch with the chip company and was able to track down the owner. He was very happy and told our volunteers that Kiki had disappeared about four month ago. She must have traveled a few miles and probably couldn't find her way home. Their two year-old daughter will be super happy to be reunited with her cat!

Just a reminder that Animal Care Services offers free microchips to city residents. Find out more HERE.

Thanks to Angel Disaster Response Inc.
This month, SAFCC was surprised by a sizeable donation from Angel Disaster Response Inc. The Angel Disaster Response Inc. is a charitable organization started by Shannon Ralston and Kathy Gallagher of Angel Staffing. The Angel Staffing team is dedicated to helping the community in need...for both people and our animal friends. They are primarily dog lovers, however last year on October 9, Shannon's mom, Laurie Ann Ralston, passed away unexpectedly. Laurie was a big animal lover and especially loved cats. Shannon wanted to help San Antonio cats in crisis on behalf of her mom Laurie and granted us this generous donation. Shannon has said it would make her mom happy to know that cats in need in San Antonio were being helped in her memory.

Winnie's caretaker is grateful for SAFCC Cat Crisis Fund
Cecilia called our helpline about a sick feral cat in her neighborhood that was thin, frail and covered with mosquitos. She fed the cat and took the cat, now named Winnie, to be seen at a clinic. It was determined that Winnie had stopped eating and was FIV+. The vet said she was skin and bones, and that even as a big cat only weighed a little over seven pounds. Because of her bad state, the vet recommended euthanasia.
Celia was comforted to know that Winnie was no longer suffering and said, "thank you for helping this sick feral cat.... My heart is breaking for her." While it pains us to not have been able to provide a better outcome for Winnie, we are glad she did not die alone in the streets. Our Cat Crisis Fund provides medical care for injured or ill community cats like Winnie. Without this resource, we would not be able to do our part to reduce the suffering of outside cats. If you want to help support our efforts in this regard, please consider a donation to our CCF HERE

Cat of the month: MacKenna
My name is MacKenna. I am a female medium hair tabby with bold stripes. I am about two years old. I was taken in by a family with other cats and not spayed so I had a litter of kittens. My family found all the cats to be too much so they called SAFCC for help. My foster mom picked us up, got me fixed and vaccinated and now I am ready for my new forever home.
I am very sweet and friendly, and a sweetheart of a gal. I love attention and lots of rubs. I am quiet but still a playful girl. I'm also good with other felines and kids. If you are interested in me call/text my foster mom Lorraine at 210-471-8462 or email: crazykattlady67@gmail.com
My adoption fee is 100.00 which includes spay, rabies shot, FVRCP shot, feline leukemia and Fiv test, and microchip.

Cat Colony Feeders Needed!
We are looking for volunteers to help us feed our existing cat colonies and would appreciate any help we can get! These felines have been trapped, neutered and released (TNR) by our organization and rely on our volunteers to feed them! We are recruiting people willing to feed colonies in their local area. Cat food and other resources are possible depending on SAFCC’s current donations. If you are interested, we encourage you to fill out one of our volunteer forms!

If you think you can help by feeding a colony near your work or home, please fill out our volunteer form HERE.

How to help community cats beat the heat
The dog days of summer are here but outdoor cats are feeling the heat too. Here are some ways you can help your colony cats stay cool and hydrated.
Always make sure your pet or cat colony has fresh, cool water to drink. Feel free to add ice cubes to it and change it multiple times a day, if possible.
Broth-flavored ice cubes can be added to water to help promote your feral to drink more, which also helps to cool them down.
Try homemade ice packs! Freeze plastic bottles of water and leave them wherever your cats like to lounge.
Cats can get moisture from wet food as well. You can help your cats stay hydrated by supplementing wet food to their usual dry mix. Not only will it get them to take in more water, wet food will also add more nutrition to their diet.

Last chance to give to our Medical Care Fundraiser
Gardenia was fostered by our Community Cat Adoption Program after being found in the streets before February's winter storm. While in foster care, Gardenia gave birth to two stillbirth kittens. After the birth, Gardenia was not feeling well. It was determined she still had babies that had passed away in utero and were stuck inside her! This could be a deadly situation for any mom cat. Fortunately, CCAP was able to get Gardenia to a vet to save her life and she was adopted into a loving home.
While we love to help cats like Gardenia,
these types of unexpected medical expenses can wipe out our already dwindling foster funds for medical care. However, without our help, cats in situations like Gardenia's would suffer and die on the streets. We don't want to turn away any cats, which is often the case when our funds are severely limited due to unexpected medical emergencies. Please help us save more cats like Gardenia by donating to our medical care fundraiser HERE. The fundraiser ends by the end of the day today!
