LETTER FROM ADMINISTRATION
Dear Bishop Hartley Families:

The second half of the fourth quarter is filled with many exciting events and traditions. This week we had the pleasure of celebrating our Founders Day Mass and Grandparents Day. We were truly blessed to have many grandparents of our seniors, members of our first graduating class, and the 50th anniversary Class of 1972 join us as we celebrate our Bishop Hartley Community.

We look forward to the prom this weekend at Jefferson Country Club and know that it will be a wonderful and memorable occasion for our juniors and seniors. We thank parents for your help and cooperation as our students celebrate together.

Finally, we give a special shout out to our faculty during this Teacher Appreciation Week. They've enjoyed many special treats this week planned by Dr. Patricia Hanna and a team of staff members. We've encouraged students to express their appreciation as well. If you would like to reach out to a particular teacher or staff member to express your appreciation, you can find email contact information here.

Enjoy the spring weather, and please remind students to finish strong!

Sincerely,

The Bishop Hartley Administrative Team

Student News
Senior Capstone presentations began during Mentor Group this week and continue through next week. This is a culminating project for all seniors at Bishop Hartley. Work began first quarter in English classes and continued throughout the year in both religion and government classes. The final projects pulls all three elements together for a presentation. Students researched a social justice issue of importance to them and formulated questions they would like to research. Through their research, they considered both religious and governmental aspects and implications. They were also required to complete a 2-hour service project related to their topic. The topics are varied, and the presentations impressive. Please ask a senior about their project!

Students in Mrs. Hendrix’s marketing classes will be giving their final presentations the week of May 16. They have been working hard to create a marketing plan for companies they created together in small groups. We look forward to hearing about these companies:
  • Wingin' Whips - A flying car that will help you reach new heights
  • Clearly - A revolutionary skincare product designed to minimize waste and breakouts
  • Beyond America - A sustainable athleisure brand
  • SGM - A space mining company dedicated to finding alternative energy resources in space
  • ECE C - A vehicle customization company that exclusively modifies electric vehicles
  • Dinosoar - A dinosaur themed child-safety bicycle
  • Retrotech Co. - A modern take on the headphone jack

Mrs. Verdi’s Sacred Heart Mentor Group has been spreading positive messages throughout the building with locker signs of encouragement. They started in C-wing and have worked their way through the building.
Mrs. Maloof’s Honors English 10 classes are currently reading Salt in My Soul: An Unfinished Life by Mallory Smith. It is the journal of a young woman with Cystic Fibrosis. In addition to learning about the diary genre, and an opportunity to explore subjects mentioned in the book more fully after they read, students are learning from the experiences of someone with a chronic illness. Mallory’ s words, “I need to be happy or I’ll never be healthy, mentally or physically” led to a discussion of the role music plays in cheering us and an impromptu “Just Dance” session using the Pharrell Williams song, “Happy.”

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teachers have enjoyed several activities this week and have participated in making each other feel appreciated every day. Highlights of the week included a daily raffle, a special breakfast on Wednesday, and a chance to hit the jackpot with a scratch-off lottery ticket. Raffle winners included Molly Maloof (Monday), Bart Krieger (Tuesday), Shannon Howard (Wednesday), Evan Wagner (Thursday), and Brad Burchfield (Friday). Teachers were treated to snacks and drinks “room service style” on Friday to finish the week.

Please enjoy a few videos of all the wonderful appreciation actions that took place this week!

Nurse's Notes
All Junior Parents - Please remember to schedule your students for their second Meningococcal vaccine this summer. All seniors are required to have this vaccination by the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. If your student has already had the vaccine, you are welcome to send a copy to school nurse, Greer Edwards, now.

All Students - there will be a Flu Vaccine Clinic in the Fall. Please plan to have your student vaccinated here at school. More information and paperwork will be available once school starts in August.

Any student with medication at school must pick it up before the last day of final exams. If the medications are not picked up, they will be discarded. If your student will require medication during the 2022-2023 school year, new Medication Administration orders will need to be completed and signed by a physician. Forms can be found in the Nurse's Notes on the Bishop Hartley website.
A Rosary a Day in May
You’re invited to join other families throughout the Diocese in interceding for Bishop-elect Fernandes as we prepare for his ordination on May 31st, by praying a Rosary each day.

Just as St. Catherine of Siena said, "Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the whole world on fire," let's set the Columbus Diocese ablaze in prayer together as we prepare for our new bishop.
