Morning Star School Mission Statement

Rooted in the Gospel and strengthened by the sacraments, the mission of Morning Star School is to provide a unique, inspiring education empowering students with learning differences to achieve their full potential.
Dear Morning Star Families and Friends,
I hope that everyone had a restful Labor Day weekend.

Do you know what the Morning Star School mascot is? It is the Winged Lion.  Do you know what the Winged Lion represents? The Winged Lion is the traditional symbol for Saint Mark the Evangelist. The Winged Lion represents courage, strength, and power. What a wonderful mascot for our school community. Our peace garden located just outside our high school is named St. Mark the Evangelist.

Next week, order forms will be sent home to purchase school spirit day t-shirts. Our spirit day t-shirts will have our school mascot, the winged lion, on the back of the shirts. Spirit day t-shirts will be able to be worn every Wednesday with students' regular school pants or skirts. This is a fun way for us to be able to show our school spirit and pride in our school.

Have a great week.

God Bless,
Elaine Shott, Principal

Please contact Sister Elise for questions about volunteering - 904-721-2144 or ekennedy@morningstar-jax.org
Volunteering at Morning Star:

Morning Star School requires each family to contribute fifteen hours of volunteer service to the school annually. Parents not serving fifteen hours will be required to pay $5 per hour for the lacking hours. Invoices will be sent home for remaining hours in May.

Please know that everything you do makes a difference, and we are grateful to have your help. Parent participation is crucial to our school.

To be able to volunteer in the school you must attend the “Protecting God’s Children" class and undergo a Live Scan Fingerprinting. Until this screening process is complete you will not be allowed to volunteer in the school. Sign up for your Protecting God's Children class soon, they fill up very quickly.

For more information about volunteering click HERE

Notes were sent home to parents who's screening has expired. When you have completed the re-screening or taken the “Protecting God’s Children class please email Sister Elise at ekennedy@morningstar-jax.org to let her know.
MSS SPOTLIGHT
Colleen Morris, Junior High 3 Teacher
I live in Jacksonville with my three kids and two dogs. We moved here three years ago from New York City. As a family, we love hiking, biking, swimming, going to the beach. Anything outdoors!

After a global career in the tourism industry, I decided to pursue a new career in exceptional education. As a parent, I have over a decade of experience with ADHD, dyslexia and type 1 diabetes. I fully embrace that all children are God’s gifts. Each child learns in their own way and at their own pace.

I am very excited to be teaching Junior High 3 this school year!
