NOVEMBER 2022

Set the Standard, Light the Path

This time of year often offers space for remembrance of the people who came before us and lit the path we walk upon. Native American Heritage Month offers us a chance to learn more about the First People of this country, their wisdom, and their many gifts. As we continue to learn, MHLIC has a growing catalog of resources that centers American Indian and Alaska Native people. If you know of an important resource related to maternal health and/or health equity, please share. We invite you to listen, read, and share.

The season of thanksgiving offers a chance for reflection about our history and all that we have in our lives. The MHLIC team wishes to express a deep gratitude to everyone who embarks on (and sets the standard for) improving maternal health and health equity in communities and this country. We are thankful for everyone who is doing the work: the innovators, way-makers, thought leaders, vision sharers, pavement pounders, advocates, care givers, birthing people - everyone who is making a difference in maternal health and equity outcomes.

Common and inclusive language is important. Shared language helps people on teams and partnerships to be on the same page – using the same definitions and meanings ensures clarity, specificity, and understanding.
