It's FINALLY Their Turn!!
FREE COVID-19 vaccines are now available for all
Virginians over 6 months old
RCAHD is delighted to be among the local providers to begin offering COVID-19 vaccines to our youngest residents, ages six months and older.

Vaccines for young children received final approval by federal authorities and VDH over the weekend, and are in the process of being shipped to participating providers this week. COVID-19 vaccines help prevent kids from severe illness, long-term complications, and death.

Q: Where can my child receive a free vaccine?

A: Many parents may prefer that their child be vaccinated at their pediatrician's office. Contact your pediatrician to find out if they will carry the vaccine and whether they are holding a walk-in clinic or scheduling by appointment.

Vaccines will also be carried by:
  • federally qualified health centers like New Horizons Healthcare
  • pharmacies (ages 3 and up only, by Virginia state law)
  • hospitals
  • RCAHD clinics
RCAHD will begin administering free COVID-19 vaccines to children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old on Thursday, June 23, by appointment only at the Roanoke and Covington health departments:

  • Register your child for the June 23 Roanoke Clinic: Moderna Pfizer

Strong interest may quickly fill this week's clinics, but we will hold more clinics next week. We also expect more appointments to be available locally soon as more providers receive their vaccine shipments within the next 1-2 weeks.

Clinics for young children at the Botetourt, Craig, Salem and Vinton health departments will begin during the week of June 27. Appointments are preferred. Contact your local RCAHD office to make an appointment.

Knowing Saves Lives

Recent research shows that HIV testing declined during the pandemic, leading to potential undiagnosed cases and spread. Individuals who are aware of their HIV positive status can get care, receive treatment and live long, healthy lives.

People taking HIV medicine, as prescribed, and maintaining an undetectable viral load will pose no risk of transmitting HIV to their negative partners.

Visit one of our FREE clinics on National HIV Testing Day, June 27. No ID required, results back in 20 minutes.
