2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine awarded jointly to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun “for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation”

Two scientists have just been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discovery of a key principle relating to how gene activity is regulated.

Read more about this exciting advancement in RNA science in this official Nobel press release.

Faculty perspectives:

“Cancer research has largely focused on transcription factors as key tumor suppressors or oncogenes. I hope this recognition will reinvigorate the field, shifting attention to these vital genetic regulators and driving greater support for miRNA-based therapies.”
