A Word from the President & CEO
As the third quarter of this year draws to an end, we are left with mixed impressions of where things are heading for the upstream industry and at what pace. While the global markets have had to temper their growth projections to deal with the realities of the Delta surge, major countries are generally trending to a gradual return of economic activity, and with it an increase in consumption of hydrocarbons. E&P Operators are cautiously optimistic but remain laser-focused on cost controls. This bodes well for the resumption of digital transformation plans. While they were always alive, the climate of uncertainty these past 18 months caused many initiatives to be paused or to be rescheduled.
Energistics has continued to be active as shown by the release a few days ago of ETP v1.2. The recent RESQML™ ILAB and WITSML™ SIG meetings brought us closer to new versions for both standards, and our active involvement in the OSDU™ Forum ensures that the most recent versions of our standards align with the requirements for the new Data Platform.
This is all taking place in the context of the transition of the Energistics Consortium to becoming an affiliate of The Open Group OSDU™ Forum come January 1, 2022.

The Future of Energistics
As you may already have heard or read elsewhere, effective January 1, 2022, Energistics will become an affiliate of The Open Group, the broad-based standards organization that includes the OSDU™ Forum. Several Energistics member companies are also members of the OSDU Forum.
As of January next year, any current Energistics member companies that have not yet joined the OSDU Forum will be invited to transition their membership activities across to The Open Group in order to continue their involvement with Energistics, as well as participate in the OSDU Forum if they wish. The good news is that, as a result of this change, they will only be paying one set of dues in 2022 rather than two. There will be no additional cost to participate in Energistics standards activities when it moves under the control of The Open Group.
The Energistics standards are already a key component of the OSDU Data Platform. If the Energistics standards are important to your business, we encourage you to join The Open Group and participate in the future development of the standards to ensure that they continue to meet your needs.
The professional team that has supported the Energistics activities will be disbanded by the end of this year and the standards development effort will become a purely volunteer-led activity.
The Open Group is committed to ensuring that the Energistics standards continue to evolve and thrive and to make the standards available to the industry at-large, as Energistics has always done. The Energistics website will continue to be your source for information about the standards.

ETP v1.2 is available for download
After a huge amount of effort and on-going contributions by our members, and after two 3-month-long periods of public comments on release candidates, we are proud to make available to the industry the much-awaited ETP v1.2. The new version is built on the many experiences of companies using version v1.1, and takes into account a large number of specific use-cases that reflect a broader mission in support of real-time operations and also direct application interoperability.

RESQML™ ILABs Apr 13 - 16 & Aug 2 - 6
The RESQML spring and summer ILABs focused on the delivery of RESQML v2.2, with the expectation of a release candidate ready for public review and comment by the end of 2021.
The August session began with a day devoted to testing ETP v1.2 with RESQML and WITSML. With ETP v1.2 now published, RESQML will use the broader interoperability features.
The main goals for RESQML v2.2 include updates/bug fixes based on v2.0.1 experience as well as support for the OSDU™ Data Platform's Reservoir Domain Data Management Service (rDDMS) initiative. A significant portion of the sessions was spent discussing issues emerging from the OSDU reservoir initiative, which exemplifies the ability of and need for the Energistics and OSDU communities to collaboratively deliver standards and related services that support the industry.

WITSML™ Fall SIG September 14-17
The WITSML SIG worked to finalize the items to be included in WITSML v2.1, with the aim of publishing a version for comment before the end of the calendar year. One of the main topics the team discussed was the mapping of this new version of WITSML to the well-related data in the current version of the OSDU™ Data Platform. Use of WITSML in conjunction with the recently-released ETP v1.2 was also addressed. Other activities included updates to data schemas based on real world deployments of WITSML v2.0.

PRODML™ v2.2
A release candidate of PRODML v2.2 is scheduled for public review availability by year-end. Since the release of v2.1 in the first half of 2019, there are new developments in Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and fluid recording, as well as updates based on the experience following deployments of PVT. These items will all be part of the version that will go out for public review.
