He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Luke 10:27
Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
Deuteronomy. 4:9
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Matthew 5:8
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luke 12:34
What is your legacy?
I’ve been thinking a bit about legacy lately. It is so easy to look at the news and despair of the legacy we are leaving for our children and grandchildren. There is so much in our country and world to worry about and to disagree with.
But “the world” is not all that is important. Sure, we should be concerned with the big picture - the economy and the welfare of our families and others; climate and good stewardship of our planet; honesty and service in the home or in politics or the workplace; and so much more.
But just as important is our personal legacy. Dare I say... more important?! Jesus teaches that God looks inwardly at our hearts first. And that - through the work of the Holy Spirit - changed hearts lead to a changed world, one life at a time.
What does my heart look like? Has my love for Jesus led to meaningful change in my life and in my interactions with others? What legacy am I passing on to my children and grandchildren? A legacy of despair and worry? Or a legacy of hope, trust, and service? May I have a heart full of active love of others and love of God - made possible through the redeeming work of my Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us put our faith in Him daily, for “His mercies are new each morning!”
God bless you!
