Roslyn Public Schools

SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

January 11, 2022

Dear Roslyn Families,

I am writing to inform you of important changes to the COVID-19 isolation and quarantine guidelines for K-12 Nassau County public schools. The  New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH)  is aligning  with the CDC’s updated COVID-19 isolation and quarantine recommendations to shorten quarantine and isolation periods as follows:

Quarantine (for individuals who are exposed to someone with COVID-19)

  • Vaccinated Students: All fully vaccinated students, who are symptom-free, who have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19 will not need to quarantine and may continue to attend in-classroom school activities, regardless of booster status.

  • Unvaccinated Students: Students who are not vaccinated or have not completed a primary vaccine series who came into close contact with someone with COVID-19 should quarantine for at least 5 days.

Isolation (for individuals testing positive for COVID-19)

  • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate for a minimum of 5 days (regardless of vaccination status). If symptoms persist, further isolation will be required; otherwise, they may attend school after the 5-day isolation.

Once we have clarity from the NYSDOH on how the above guidance will influence students’ participation in extracurricular/after-school activities, we will communicate that to you. If you have specific questions regarding a quarantine period, please contact your school nurse. Please keep in mind that an individual feeling symptoms must stay home.

Additionally, the Roslyn School District was notified by the NYS Governor’s office that they incorrectly stated that the FDA authorized a 3-month extension of the January 2022 expiration date listed on the at-home kits that were distributed last week. Therefore, the kits will expire on January 31, 2022.

Please know that the conflicting and ever-changing guidance is as frustrating for us as it is for you. As always, we will continue to communicate the latest guidance and information to you as soon as possible.

Be well.

Sincerely,

Allison Brown
