Peru Trip Report - Jesus is Greater!
What a trip! After 10 years, Nate returned to the Amazon River in Peru. Nate led a staff team of 4 others (2 locals he had met and kept in touch with on his first trips to Peru) and 14 missionaries.

The week was all about the local church! We served alongside two amazing pastors and churches and truly felt the comradery found in all of us being part of the Kingdom of God.

To sum it up in one word what we experienced: POWER!

One of the homes that we visited started off just like any other home visit. We prayed with a woman and her young son and invited them to the activities of the week that the church was hosting with the team. When we were done praying, one of the staff asked why there were leaves hanging from the door of the home. The woman replied, "to keep the evil spirits away!" The local shaman (or witch doctor) had instructed them to put the leaves on every doorpost.

At that moment, we knew we had a deeper purpose at that home. We asked if we could enter the house and the woman gladly took us up the steep steps that led to her home. She explained that an evil spirit had been terrorizing her and her son each night, even shaking the bed, causing great fear. So we did what we knew to do, we anointed the house and each person with oil (a symbol of the Holy Spirit) and we commanded every evil spirit to flee and not return. We declared that Jesus was Lord of the home!

A few days later we returned to the same home to deliver a bag of groceries on behalf of the local Church. The woman and child were not home, but the husband was. We noticed that there were no more leaves hanging on the doors (see the picture...no leaves hanging)! The husband explained that since we prayed the evil spirit could not return and the leaves were useless because of the power of Jesus Christ! We charged the man to lead his family in the ways of the Lord and be committed to the Church.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:4 that his message and preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power. That is what we experienced the entire week! Holy Spirit was with us to demonstrate that no power is greater that the blood and name of Jesus!

October Family Update
October was full of making great memories that we know we will remember for a long time!

The kids had Fall Break, giving them an extra long weekend off from school. We decided to take advantage of this and take a trip to Texas. The kids have all mentioned at some point that they wanted to visit there and we found a great deal on an Airbnb that was too good to pass up.

We stayed in Dallas, but took a day trip down to Waco to visit the Silos and had the best time there. While there, we met up with Fredelin, one of the boys who lived in the orphanage we served at in Haiti when Reagan was a baby. He is now a married man with a baby, and residing in Texas! It was such a gift to spend the afternoon with him and reconnect.

That Sunday, we visited a home church of a friend that we met through our neighbors in Florida. God's timing is awesome...our neighbor from Florida, Andrew, happened to be visiting that weekend and led worship and preached during the service. The kids were so surprised and elated to see him, he and his family had become like family to us when we lived in Florida, and are probably what we miss the most about living there.

A few days after returning home from Texas, Laura's parents came for a visit! We don't get to see them often, so the time that we get to spend with them is precious. We took them to the beach so dad could swim in the Gulf, to a miniature train display, and to some of our favorite spots in town like the pier and ice cream spot.

Nate's 12-day trip to Peru began the day Laura's parents left.

The second half of October continued to be filled with soccer and cross-country practices, games, and meets, with some fun fall events sprinkled in between. Our neighborhood is great about hosting family events such as pumpkin decorating and a pet parade. Isaiah and his friend wore inflatable dinosaur costumes and had another friend "walk" them in the parade, haha.

The next couple of months will be filled with decorating, anticipation, festive events, and gatherings with friends and family. We pray that we keep our eyes fixed on the One for Whom we are thankful and Whose birth we celebrate, and pray the same for you.

Thank you for your continued prayers for our family, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that our God is greater than anything the enemy throws our way! We love each of you and are so grateful for you!
