ONE-HALF OF THE MOST PROLIFIC HUNTING COUPLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT

Alan’s wife, Barbara, has taken over 350 species of big game. Not only was she previously selected as an Elite Hunter, but she also won both the Weatherby Award and SCI’s International Hunting Award in the same year (2015). Alan has also successfully hunted 350 species in more than 40 countries.

THREE-QUARTERS OF A CENTURY

Alan began hunting as a child on a farm in upstate New York and has now enjoyed the trips and challenges for 75 years (with over 75 sheep and goats taken during that time). He just recently completed his third Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep, making him the first to ever start and complete a Slam when over the age of 80. Incidentally, he is also an avid golfer who can routinely shoot his age.

SACKMAN ENTERPRISES

In 1969 Alan founded Sackman Enterprises with an exclusive focus on the restoration of historic brownstones in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. If you have ever traveled the streets of New York City, you will have seen the beautiful brick rowhouses (many up to 4 stories) with the ornate brown sandstone facades. Over the years, the Sackman portfolio has grown to include all types of real estate in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Texas, Colorado, the Carolinas, and the Caribbean. Think what he could have accomplished if he wasn’t a hunter and golfer!

AWARDS

Alan Sackman’s many awards include SCI’s World Hunting and Conservation Award, the Golden Malek Award (which is the top award for the South Pacific), the Weatherby, the Pantheon (maybe the most difficult to achieve), and just recently he was inducted into the Klineburger Mountain Hunting Hall of Fame. And he served as President of the Weatherby Foundation from 2012 through 2014.  

FAMILY

Barbara and Alan enjoy spending time with their 3 children, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, many of whom are also avid hunters.

For the second half of 2021 and all of 2022, 18 consecutive monthly Elite Hunter selections were made and profiled. Beginning in January, 2023, selections are being made quarterly and are published the first month of each quarter (January, April, July, and October).
