Volume 13 | January 2022

Greetings!

We're finally saying goodbye to a troubling 2021 and preparing for a fresh and brighter new year. Let's cheer for a calmer year by being kind, courageous, and hopeful. We will give ourselves and each other grace, and the space needed to move forward. I wish you all the best!

2022 Trending Color
The Pantone Color Institute has gone easy on the jewelry trade with its 2022 pick for color of the year. In selecting Very Peri—“a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone” that combines “the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red,” according to the Carlstadt, N.J.–based institute—the color authority has chosen a hue that could, in theory, describe a number of gems across the price spectrum.
There is sapphire or tanzanite that is closest to this "Very Peri" color.

JANUARY Birthstone

Beautiful Red GARNET

The name “garnet” originates from the medieval Latin granatus, meaning “pomegranate,” in reference to the similarity of the red color. Garnets have been used since the Bronze Age as gemstones and abrasives. Necklaces studded with red garnets adorned the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. Signet rings in ancient Rome featured garnet intaglios that were used to stamp the wax that secured important documents. The clergy and nobility of the Middle Ages had a preference for red garnets.

Curious about your garnet birthstone’s reputed health benefits? According to Indian astrology, garnet helps eliminate negative feelings (depression, guilt) and instills greater self-confidence and mental clarity to promote creative thinking and peace of mind. In ancient and medieval times, gems like garnet were also thought to be remedies for inflammatory diseases and to soothe the angry heart.

Celebrate your 2nd Wedding Anniversary with Garnet
